Tim Banks

Chip Kelly killed us by running Smith around all night to get him matched up on linebackers and Brooks.

It worked to perfection for three reasons:

1. He is a phenomenal talent - he is a bigger and more physical version of Ryan Williams - he is the best WR in college football.

2. Banks decided in his first HUGE mistake to not double him. This was insanely stupid. All other teams lately doubled him.

3. Banks decided to play zone / off their WRs by 10 and sometimes 15 yards . . . And he did not have say . . . McCoy track Smith no matter what. We got torched - again and again. He never adjusted. At all. If Smith ran to the left of line and that put Telander on him . . . We just rolled with that.

Talent wise - We had no replacement for Pili.

Reminds me of that movie National Treasure and Nicolas Cage told the FBI guy he didn't want to go to prison and the FBI guy said someone always has to go to prison.
Not saying it's Banks but after last night. Someone has to be fired

No one with a passing game as good as what we saw last night. The dline was the defense. Seemed to wear down or get less aggressive as the year went on. Banks doesn't adjust to shat in game. No such thing as halftime adjustments. If it takes you a whole half to adjust you suck.

I’ve never suggested that but today for the first time I’m considering the possibility that the haters are right. Did we get a hand on the QB all night besides the one that grabbed his face mask? Their leading rusher had 8 ypc. I just want to know what we were trying to accomplish on either side of the ball. I’m ok with getting beat by a better team, and clearly Ohio was better, but did we try anything special to disrupt Howard or shut down Jeremiah Smith or shut down the run game? Or we just play cover 2 man all night and hope for the best?
The Chip Kelly vs Tim Banks competition was extremely lopsided. Same for the Georgia game. Both teams went up and down the field repeatedly against our defense. Just don’t let them get beat by that 75-yard bomb. Keep it all underneath. That philosophy is sickening.

When has the talent, he is a very good coach. When you don't have very good talent at every position, no one is a very good coach. He does not yet have enough talent at LB and Safety to compete for the National championship
Wouldn’t have been enough this year but yeah safety and LBer have to get better. Other side of the ball needs a lot of help too. We better get our crap together right now and start making sure we’re getting the first calls on these players that are moving.

Kelly was using a full arsenal also. Not to take anything away from him or give Banks an excuse. I thought Tim could’ve done some things to help but ultimately we were screwed. We couldn’t single cover Smith, cover Egbuka, Tate and then hell they got Henderson going in the passing game. Our lack of speed at safety and LBer were apparent.

He had a LINEBACKER covering JEREMIAH SMITH
Give that credit to their OC. He had his QB read the defense and call a shift which forced the LB on a WR. We used to do that too but haven't recently. The offense has the last call before the ball is snapped. The same thing happened against Georgia in other second half when they scored two TDs with a slow safety on a Wr and a LB on a WR. Those two plays cost us the Georgia game. That play against OSU is not what case us the game. OSU just has son much more talent than we do. Talent difference is why we lost Saturday night.

I can't stand Tim Banks. I have never liked him.

Overrated . "Tim Banks should be a candidate for a head coaching job". PLEASE somebody, Hire him! Hype had better go after the best assistants available, or his azz will be on the hot seat.. Tennessee hardly beat anyone with a pulse this year. Bama & UF were way down, and still UT barely won those 2.

UGA game, QB 90% completions. NO PRESSURE, NO ADJUSTMENTS! I'm so over Tim Banks. He got Schooled, and I was afraid that would happen. Get rid of him. "Broyles award candidate" indeed. VS Kent and Chattanooga...

Tim Banks is an adequate DC with average assistants with the possibility of Garner being
a somewhat above average DL coach. Our biggest defensive problem is that we have almost
never had above average LB group. Our secondary is almost always average with one or two
very good players that don't always play to their potential (coaching?)
You lost me at saying Garner is “somewhat above average.” He’s among the best in the business. I pretty much agree with the Banks assessment.

Agree. Banks is a fraud
The thing that makes it hard to get rid of him is the fact that our defense has improved every year that he's been here.

In my opinion, we've peaked defensively with Tim Banks. He'll never have another James Pearce Jr to go along with Boo Carter, the talent we had at CB and the number of capable bodies we had along the defensive line. But that's an opinion. It's tough to fire someone who is improving, statistically.

It was noticeable for sure. Qb dropped a couple of dimes in there that wouldn't have mattered who was covering Smith or the other fella.

He left Joseph in zone covering Henderson on a wheel route before that. We couldn’t get to the QB with the front four so instead bringing an extra rusher or two he plays one of our best edge rushers in coverage. Makes zero sense.
They did it all night. I'm no Buddy Ryan, but taking one of your best pass rushers totally out of the picture seems like a bad idea.

We had multiple busted coverages in the first half. What really frustrated me the most is how is it we only rush three or four defensive lineman but yet there is still one on one matchups all over the field for Ohio State to exploit. And then on the opposite side of the spectrum, Ohio State on defense would bring five but would still have two or three defenders around every pass on the backend. None of that makes any sense to me. The only explanation that I can come up with is that Ohio State out schemed us in an epic way on both sides of the ball. On top of having more talent.
