Time Machine

Ah yes, the hobnail boot game. At the time, that loss was absolutely devastating. But like you said, it wasn't that impactful. The Vols still had a chance to play for the national championship if they could've taken care of business against LSU. That didn't make it hurt any less at the time, though.
That loss to LSU still stings all these years later. I never thought that the 96 Memphis loss could be topped till that game. We haven't gotten anywhere near that close to a NC championship shot since.

The 2001 SEC Championship game no question. If Ohio State could beat Miami no doubt in my mind Fulmer would have gotten a second NC. That team IMO was the best talent wise Fulmer ever had.

OSU beat Miami in 2002. The 2001 Miami team was very, very good. They beat Nebraska who back-doored their way into the BCS title game with UT losing and not having to play in the Big 12 title game.

I pretty sure they played Nebraska that did not win Big 12 that got killed by Colorado.

If you had a football time machine and could go back to any game in the last 10 years and change the outcome of 1 play of a Vols football game what would it be and why? 2009 AL field goal? 2010 LSU 13-Men play? 2010 Music City Bowl FG? Last year's UGA Pig Howard TD/Fumble?

I would take the 4th and 1 against FL at home in 2006. I think if we stop Tebow and beat FL, our confidence could have carried over into the rest of the season and could potentially make all the difference down the stretch. A better record in 06 could've led to a better class the following year, and it could have snowballed from there. 1 yard literally could have had a huge impact on the next 7 years and MAYBE even have prevented the huge downfall from which we are just now recovering

Last year's Pig Howard fumble vs Georgia hands down. If he doesn't fumble, we win and speed up our rebuild/return to relevance with a bowl game appearance.

2nd, I'd say the 2009 blocked fieldgoal vs Bama.

I couldn't care less about changing anything from the Dooley era other than the press conference that introduced him as our new head coach.

2001 Miami is probably the best team of the BCS era. They only played 1 close game (26-24 win over Virginia Tech on the road)...Their roster was loaded with NFL players: Sean Taylor, Ed Reed, Jeremy Shockey, Andre Johnson, Clinton Portis, Frank Gore, Bryant McKinnie, Willis McGahee, Jonathan Vilma, DJ Williams, Vince Wilfork, William Joseph, Antrel Rolle, Phillip Buchannon...They would have beaten us by 2 TD's but nevertheless it would have been sweet to play in the Rose Bowl and be the 2001 SEC Champs. I hate the phrase 'jump the shark' but the 2001 SECCG is where Fulmer did just that.

Easy answer for me.. 2001 SEC Championship game vs LSU. Seems like that was a directional point for the two programs and LSU went up and UT unfortunately began spiraling down.. Matt Mauck = :banghead2:

Since we're going back to 2001, I would change that shanked squib kick that Fulmer called after the UT TD with about 40 seconds left that set up the short TD series for UGA that led to the 'hobnail boot' toss from David Greene to the UGA FB. I remember thinking that I wished I had a cat so that I could kick it. But then I would have probably shanked it.

Traitor Larry Munson, for some of us old timers who recall he was the voice of Vanderbilt for many years before going to Athens, lives on with his "hobnail boot" comment ... many of the radio stations in Georgia play it constantly as part of their advertising they broadcast Georgia games ... which brings me to projectile vomiting until the heaves appear ...

Arian Foster fumble againt AL...Vols lose 6-3. Do not remember year. Was almost identical to what he did against PSU in bowl game.

Pig vs GA last year. Maybe we get a bowl game if that doesn't happen

No way I change that LSU game, that was a terrible season anyway (ironically dooleys best season) and who knows if he wins that maybe he is still around.
I would have to change that 2nd half of the 2001 SECCG,
or that 2006 Florida game the OP mentioned

The 4th and one is moot if the Referee just keeps his flag in his pocket on the Vols pick six. That was THE PLAY in that 2006 game. Looks like Vols are up 13 but roughing the passer call brings back the TD and gives Gators a first down.

Yup your right I can't believe I forgot that. Damn I feel old now.

The single play that stung the most out of the group was the 2009 FG Block. 2 Blocks in one game against your biggest Rival. That will make you sick.

Take the 2013 UT Media Guide back to 2007 and show Fulmer and staff the future of UT football. Maybe that would light a fire under them to aggressively make some positive changes that help the team.
