"Now that others are saying it on free sites, yeah, several sources have said this is all over but the formal announcement."

Guy's useless since the job change. Can anybody recommend a decent Twitter source for Vols news?

No disrespect, but you're pissed off by a reporter posting news to his employer's pay site 2 hrs before it was made 'public'? Did you not see the tea leaves on this one?

Everybody that had a clue knew this was coming. The point is that Rucker isn't nearly useful on Twitter now that he's handcuffed by writing for a pay site.

I always liked his stance on refusing to print rumors; he did a good job walking the line between being first and being right. But now he's not only moving his best information behind a paywall, but he's clearly much more of a cheerleader than he used to be. His line about "Pearl will win again; we'll see about Tennessee" is absolute crap.

Can anybody recommend a better Twitter source for Vols basketball news? I've got football pretty well covered, but now that Rucker is gone I don't think I'm following anyone who covers basketball anymore.

Agree 100%.

He was hands down my favorite beat writer with UT until the job change because he called it straight whether I agreed or not. I didn't think much would change even though I understood I'd have to pay. He's definitely playing sides now. Very disappointing.

I had to unfollow rucker a long time ago. He was constantly tweeting stupid crap that had nothing to do with sports. Like anyone cares to know every thing dude does.

Rucker's twitter stream is so full of personal crap that he has to provide good information for it to be worthwhile to follow him. When he worked for the Chattanooga paper, he did. Now that he's working for the 247 Sports/GVX partnership, anytime he gets anything useful it goes behind a paywall. I'm not pissed off; it's just annoying because he's not useful anymore.

It's interesting how the whole tone of his reporting has changed since he switched jobs. The objectivity that I respected in him has largely vanished, now that he's working for what amounts to a house organ. The Chattanooga Times Free Press must be a better newspaper than I thought.

He posted about 4 updates saying that he thought he was gone but didn't have definitive proof so he wasn't going to speculate out of respect to the coaches. Get your panties out of a wad

Rucker is a good dude. Just like everyone else, he wants to get decent pay for the work he puts in. Who cares if he took a liking to Pearl. They've been in contact with each other day in and day out for several years now, I'm sure a little friendship was formed. I'd be hard pressed to throw a friend under the bus even if I knew he was in the wrong too.

I follow reporters because I'm interested in news, not because I want to hear about their girlfriend's flat tire. If a reporter doesn't give out half of what he knows because he's buddy-buddy with the coaches and players, and he doesn't give out the other half because his employer wants him to put it behind a paywall, then what's the point?

Rucker used to be the best reporter following the Vols. Now he's just another media tool. It's a shame.

Down that path lies Mike Griffith. Either you're a journalist or you're not.

The problem with pay sites is that it isn't real journalism.

There isn't a editor demanding an unbias viewpoint.

It allows a once fine journalist to embrace his homer side.
