Tiny houses

The tiny house thing is a fad IMHO. (by tiny I'm talking the 500 sq ft and smaller ones HGTV shows). Last night I watched one and the couple was looking for something that held a king size bed or had full size appliances...

I could see having a small cabin as a vacation place.

One thing I don't understand on the tiny house show is why these people who are looking for one on wheels don't look at travel trailers.

I think you're right about the <500 sq ft homes being a fad.

I'm interested to see if things will shift back to slightly smaller, one level homes eventually though.

you are seeing a push for smaller homes. it will never be a big market, pun not intended, but you will see demand go up over what you have seen in the past. small rentals fly off the shelf, to-owns not so much. at least here in the atlanta market.

Agree, it's a fad. What I can't understand is why these people are dropping that kind of cash on a tiny house on wheels when they could buy a travel trailer? Get something bigger and easier to tow for less.

i spent my 12-18 yrs in a small cabin. no central ac. in the winter, space heaters provided heat or a fire. it was the life my dad chose, he had options.

it was nice, great way to grow up...needless to say it taught me a lot about appreciating what we have and dont. it also made me a tightwad. i always suggest and recommend people live within their means. you never knkw what will happen next. we dont have a huge house now, and about 3/4 acre. i cannot imagine trying to take care of that much acreage. its all we can do to keep what we have up.

Sounds a lot like a buddy of mine's dad's second house on the lake.

I'll say this: if I lived in a 300 sf house with my three kids, my favorite room would be the roof.

Ive watched this. I swear the one last night, they were downsizing to like 150 sq ft.

I think it would be cool for a guest house on a 2nd property. Also I would rather it be built on a flatbed trailer instead of a gooseneck

I had a pretty decent sized 3br house when I was single, and it was a waste of space. I wouldn't live in that small of a house unless it was in an amazing location

One would be cool for a weekend mountain or lake getaway. I would drive Granny nuts in a 150 sq ft home full time.

A gooseneck trailer is better for these homes. They are about 2' lower to the ground and much easier to get into an area one would want these, IMO.

I'd like one to own if I had 5-10 acres of land somewhere for hunting or getaway, maybe as a checkpoint place to stop, rest, etc. living in one all the time..... Not a chance.

Is your RV a gooseneck?

I'll live in one of these some day, maybe even while I'm in college in Colorado. I have no aspirations of getting married or having kids, so barring an accident it'd work out well for me, I think.

Not as much attention. There's nothing unique about a camper. A tiny house? They make documentaries about those.

Same reason the unique-looking Prius is the most popular hybrid car. A hybrid Civic looks just like a normal Civic - so who cares about those? I gotsta be NOTICED saving the environment...so I'll buy a Prius.

Probably correct.

I wouldn't mind building a 300 - 400sqft house/cabin in the back of my property for a quest house (in-law visit) but having it on wheels just looks like a waste.
