I think if one looked at it objectively one would have to say he'd enter the draft...I think the draft is fairly loaded with good O lineman though......A.J.??? not so much...he could only help his position by staying...of course that is MY opinion which means absolutely nothing...

Stay for another year man! We need his maturity and work ethic so he can mentor this young team next year.

Agreed!
And as the team begins to achieve more I think his stock goes up. He will have a year to mature physically, continue to improve the mechanics and mental toughness, and most importantly become a leader and mentor to the young men next in line. I think it pays dividends next draft year.
I pray he stays

His Mom's probably still working a job. He can follow his dream to the NFL and give her a nice retirement by going to the NFL and making millions.... He's gone

So your signing bonuses is where you make a brunt of the money anotherwards. The upfront money is the money u for sure see. Everything else, there is a good chance you won't see, especially the later the pick. As far as tiny goes, he should leave. Football is crazy. He could get injured next year and you never wanna risk that. He will play multiple years in the NFL and be set for life as long as he is smart with it.
It doesn't have anything to do with signing bonuses. A guy who gets picked late in the first doesn't get anywhere near the contract the guy who goes in the top 5-10 do.

Compare Chris Johnson's contract (he was picked 24th I believe) to Adrian Peterson (Top 10 pick). There was a difference of SEVERAL Million/yr. That's why CJ threatened to hold out when he had that 2k season. He was making peanuts compared to what Adrian Peterson and others RB's were making.

So, if Tiny stays and does indeed see his stock rise to a top 5-10 level, he'll have more than made up the difference in his first year alone...much less the rest of his rookie contract. It's really a matter of where he's projected now, and where he's projected next year, if he polishes up his game (and eliminates all the discipline related mistakes).

Think about this...was anyone clamoring for Eric Fisher to come out as a Junior? He obviously made some big strides as a senior and ended up the No.1 overall pick. I also think it may come down to his relationship with CBJ. These players love this staff, so that's a different element than a brand new staff coming in, totally unknown to the players.

This is true. Chris Johnson was set to make 500k after rushing for 2,000yds. People (fans of course) kept dogging him by saying he signed the contract, so he should honor it. Douche Bud Adams should have been business savvy enough to know he had better give his boy a raise. Boy that whole ordeal was one big clown show, lol.

The more players we have stay as long as they can, the quicker we will be back on top. I would love to see Tiny and AJ both get more development over a legitimate staff.

Having Tiny and AJ Johnson decide to return next year would be HUGE. Big players on both sides of the ball to be a leader for some good talent coming in next year. Would be awesome if both stayed.

Unfortunately Tiny will go and A.J. will stay. A double whammy.

I was torn and didnt know what to expect until this post. But after 37 posters saying the exact same thing without any shred of relationship to either player, this one finally convinced me. Thanks.

Tiny, your draft stock will never be higher. Please go play on Sundays.
Actually, this year wasn't his best...he's be smart to stay another year and grow. He will be a higher pick probably next year.

Why is everyone hoping Aj stays? All year all we heard is he's too slow. Now we want him back?

Negative. There is a HUGE difference in salary from a Top 10 pick to a late 1st or 2nd Rd'er. Plus, rookie contracts are usually 4-5yrs in length...so you WANT to make sure you get as much as you can as a rookie, cause it's going to be a long while before you start talking about a 2nd contract.

Staying one more year, to polish up his game and likely a Top 5-10 spot, will mean a difference in MILLIONS of dollars. If the team gets back on the winning track and is in the thick of the SEC East race next year, then his stock will jump significantly, all by itself.

I've followed the draft closely for years and I know how NFL teams tend to look at players from winning teams MUCH more favorably than those that come from losing teams. So, again....if he returns, polishes up his game, and if the Vols can return to their winning tradition, then he will be one of the first 2 OT's taking in the draft. And they are typically taken first in the draft, behind only franchise level QB's.

SALARY is fluff...GUARANTEED money is where players portfolios get their capital...And draft salaries are capped under the new collective bargaining agreement anyway....Yes, if he slips into the second or third round, his guaranteed money by way of bonus will be significantly chopped...But in the two to three year window where he shows what kind of player he is, the money comes calling. Every off-season, there's some nondescript midround to undrafted free agent lineman that is set up for life by desperate teams who drafted the LINEMAN FROM A WINNING PROGRAM...check the Cowboys off-season signings every year for a tutorial....if a team resigns a drafted lineman....It's substantial. The combine and the individual workouts slash the early mock drafts to shreds and a physical demon like Tiny will excel in the Shorts Olympics....the WINNING PROGRAM argument is used in a tiebreaker between prospects...I don't think many linemen tie Tiny in this area...jmo

Yeah our O-Line under achieved in many peoples eyes this year. But what will that look like without Tiny for some leadership next year?

As far as AJ...meh...he has his moments, both good and bad. I would ultimately like to see him stay and continue to develop as a player. Like one poster stated, the quickest way out of our current situation PROGRAM stability, and that includes the players staying 4 years.

I'd say his stock is at the lowest it can be. He can be a top 5 guy next year opposed to a second right now.

His stock has dropped sense the start of the season, he was in all of the top 5 draft boards, might go somewhere in the 20s might go in second round, come back and work on them false starts, then could be the number 1 or 2 tackle taken somewhere in the top 10.

LOL you never heard that from me. If AJ goes the posters who have said that will recognize just how good he is.

He leads the conference in tackles. Just think for a minute what would have happened if someone with average productivity at the position would have been there.

Edit: Any of you guys that are wishing AJ would go, or it would be a negative for AJ to come back know nothing about the position. He's not perfect, and not the best to ever play at UT, but he is a damm good linebacker, and none of the guys coming in as freshman or are new to the speed and physicality of the SEC are going to be close to filling his shoes before the last part of the season at best.

AJ just to slow for the NFL, it want hurt my feelings if he goes he is all bout his self instead of team he showed me that last week, make a play like you should and beat on your chest like you are superman maybe I am old fashion you make the play that's your job this running around dancing and pounding on chest just because you made a tackle, I just don't get it I guess I am 51 I look at it a little different than I did he made a play last week when we were down and you would have thought we had just won the game by watching him beat on his chest be honest I wish he would go and be a first round pick and I thank him for what he has done for us, this is TEAM now instead of LOOK AT ME, I thought.

Your up front money, is the money you for sure see. We are agreeing. With tinys draft stock dropped he lost a lot of money. Contracts are contingencys.

sorry but this is ridiculous. So many fans think they "know" how a player will play in the future. Anyone can change and improve...any time...any where....any how.

Anyone who thinks not, is not really a human being. Because what a person does from one moment to the next is, believe it or not, under his or her control.

Just reminds me of the Crompton crtics, or Worley at the beginning of the year, or, hell, even Matt Simms has thrown an NFL touchdown!

What makes freaking FOOTBALL FANS who might want a few hours of games a week and read a few articles "experts" who "know" that a player has peaked?

Freaking ridiculous....

For crying out loud, let the players have some fun. AJ will play in the NFL, would bet any amount on it.
