According to SB Nation he is no longer a 1st round choice but more likely a mid round draft pick. His recent combine workout was less than impressive. Medical reports say he very well could have to "redshirt" his 1st year in the NFL due to lingering issues with the knee he had surgery on before the 2013 season. One scout said based on the 2013 game tapes, he would project him as a 5th round pick.

Sounds like another case of a player who is a legend in his own mind and left the college game a year too early to seek his fame and (diminished) fortune in the NFL. Too bad. Lesson learned for all the 3-and-out crowd.

It never should have been there to begin with. I respect the kid and am proud he's a VFL. But let's call a it what it is... He's not a very good player at this point. One of the things I hate about the NFL combine is how they seem to throw out all the game footage of these kids and just focus on the measurables. I couldn't believe it when people began talking about him leaving as a junior and being a first rounder. This guy got beat like a drum all year. Imo he was our worst lineman. And to make matters even worse, I've never seen a single player flagged so many times for false start in my life. My hope was that he would return and become the dominant lineman everyone hoped he'd be, but at this point he should never be a high draft pick

Even mid rounders can make some serious cash if they make the roster. I am not sure coming back for another year would improve his draft status. JMO

definitely was listening to the wrong folks in the NFL telling him how great he was and a 1st round pick.... I hope some guys see this learn from it along with the others that went early and are now paying the price.

But look at James on the other side...been starting since he was in High School I believe and probably a better tackle....He should go in the 2nd round I would think....maybe bottom of first if everything works out...

Tiny's issue is that he isn't a true LT. Every NFL team wants him as either a RT or LG. Im a big Raider fan, and Tiny reminds me of Robert Gallery. He came in as a LT in the draft and he failed miserable. They moved him to guard and he instantly became a top 15 guard in the NFL. I think Tiny needs to be moved inside. He doesn't have the foot work or speed to play at either tackle position.

Would of helped him big time. Mid rounders make a cool 500k. Tiny already lost millions by just declaring. The economics is right again.

If they removed the three year requirement, the number of high school phenoms declaring for the draft would be confounding...the rule protects the product and players with grandiose concepts of their own talent and place in the game...to a point. Three years is enough rope to either swing or go back to school and be a regular citizen....if Tiny fails he'll join a long list that we refer to...and that won't change... No one failure is going to change future minds...if he succeeds and I think he will,it's about the second contract in the NFL anyway.

You are 100% correct. That sums up the entire discussion-coming back would NOT help him in the least. He needs to be developed by an NFL team and let's hope his physical ailments do not limit his potential.
*Also, I do remember him playing a pretty nice game vs Clowney @USC a year back.

No way coming back would bump him to 1st round. Obviously he has medical issues and he probably took that with great consideration.

Even the highest graded centers do not go in the 1st round- unless you are the Dallas Cowboys draft team.

If he proved next year that the knee doesn't affect him, he would of skyrocketed to the first round. He could of fix his technique, and his terrible discipline with another year.

Not the biggest Mayock fan in the world, but he is usually fair. He said something along the lines that they couldve called holding on Tiny every time he pass blocked.
Hope he does get a RS year so to speak and can improve. I always thought he was the most athletic lineman we had.

It's always dicey when linemen and QBs declare early for the draft, but honestly, if I'm a Left Tackle with injury issues playing in a spread offense at a school that just went 5-7, I'm looking for a paycheck ASAP.

If the knee is that much of an issue it seems like that probably played into his decision to come out now. If he was going to have to take off next season and then enter the draft after not playing an entire season who do you think that would have affected his draft stock? Not to mention, if he is going to take a year off to heal his knee would he rather do that going to class and not getting paid or getting a check in the NFL?

If he might sit out next year due to injuries, how would staying here next year help him?

If that is the case, then some team will get him for a cheap price and he will no doudt turn out to be a great player. Sorta like a Jackie Slater....

Should have learned this lesson from Tyler Bray last year... leave early and end up not even getting drafted. I Think one more year and having the luxury of having the same OL coach for the first time since he came here would do him wonders and fully expected him to go first round after this year.

Whoever is advising some of our guys on NFL entrance is doing a horrible job.

The guy left early so he could make money and help out his family. He did the right thing.

Run blocking is the worst part of his game...and you're telling me NFL teams want him as an RT or a guard?

I knew he was in trouble when a referee had to teach him how to properly line up during a time out under the Dooley regime.
