Tiny's Stock Drops as 1st Rounder....

According to SB Nation he is no longer a 1st round choice but more likely a mid round draft pick. His recent combine workout was less than impressive. Medical reports say he very well could have to "redshirt" his 1st year in the NFL due to lingering issues with the knee he had surgery on before the 2013 season. One scout said based on the 2013 game tapes, he would project him as a 5th round pick.

Sounds like another case of a player who is a legend in his own mind and left the college game a year too early to seek his fame and (diminished) fortune in the NFL. Too bad. Lesson learned for all the 3-and-out crowd.
Looks like he jumped too quickly............for about the 40th time.

Not hate. You are the hater for anyone with an opposing view to you. Just seems like too many players jump to the NFL $$$ thinking they will play for 10-15 years and make millions. Sadly most will not. The difference in the contract value between a 1st and say a 3rd rounder is immense, especially over time. And I'm betting Tiny did not graduate (I'm not certain) with a degree which means he has no fall back plan should he never make it or quickly wash out of the NFL.

I don't hate you because your view is wrong. I'm just pointing out to you that your view is wrong. Tiny has been very open as to why he was leaving early for the NFL. You clearly haven't seen his interviews or heard him speak about it, which is why you are sticking your foot in your mouth. It's not like if he doesn't make it in the NFL that he can't finish up his degree. His made the smartest choice to get the money now while he is still healthy.

What's rookie minimum, like $350k a year? Say he makes that for three years as a backup and then gets cut. He's still got his health and a cool million bucks. Pretty sure that's more than enough to help out his family. And he can go back to finish his UT degree for free. There's a special scholarship fund for that.

He will not have a million.

Either way, he's got enough talent to float around the league for enough years to probably get in the pension plan. He can get his degree during the off season. then he can get a nice job working through a university booster.

I don't think him leaving too soon and not getting drafted where he hoped will affect any future players. Ig anything then Tiny would have learned from Bray's mistake about jumping too soon and ending up worse than you were told you'd be.
I actually believe he made the best choice he could've. I doubt he could've improved his draft stock much, if at by returning. He already struggled one season trying to play in a system that he is not built for. What happens to his draft stock after struggling for 2 straight seasons and being 2 years removed from his dominant sophomore season? Worse yet what happens if he struggles and on top of it does further damage to his knee or he starts with 2 very bad games against weak comp and then gets injured for the season, even if not seriously? He goes from a mid-round pic at worst to undrafted and being flagged as injury prone. SO instead of being drafted, even late, and getting that year to rest the knee, he instead is forced to go out and try to prove himself at full force, whiel trying to rehab an injury.

I'm not sure I understand all the bashing of one of our former players.. Tiny is a very talented player and WILL NOT be on the board past the 2nd round, if not by the end of the first.

He's an LT, which is one of the most valuable positions on the OL. He has the prototypical size @ 6'6 320+, and he was one of the strongest OL in the draft. Plus, there are several teams who have needs, most recently the Carolina Panthers after Jordan Gross announced his retirement.

You can definitely tell it's the offseason, and a lot of hate is flowing over from the basketball forum.

There are better OTs that will go earlier.

Well, when you come from nothing and suddenly have the opportunity to make more in one year than your family has made in your lifetime, you jump at the chance. If you have not been in that situation, then it's easier to take the high road. Judging from your posts, you have not been in Tiny's shoes.

You don't have an F---ing clue buddy what/where I have come from.

What is his family background? What was it like to walk in his shoes? Fill us in.

OK finance major. You make $350K a year. You lose 36% to the feds and 4% to SS. You may lose say 5% to the state tax depending on where he gets drafted and another cut for some city taxes (NY or Philly for example). The agents cut is at least 5% more. So that $350K is now down to around $175K. Then he needs an apartment or house and car, probably $3000-$5000 a month for that. So now he is down to around $120K or so. Food, clothes, gas, entertaining etc. probably takes another couple thousand a month. So how many people can you sustain on say $5000-$7000/mo. for only three years? At the end of 3 years, he has actually saved virtually nothing and now is out of the league (your scenario). Good luck Tiny with that plan. It doesn't pay for much additional time at UT getting that degree, does it?

Ran a 5.1

Benched 225 36 times

Other than medical reasons, he had a decent workout.

The article stated they did not like his vertical leaping ability or standing broad jump; didn't show them enough leg strength or explosiveness off the line. Both important for LT.

Michael Munoz staying that extra year really worked out for him.

Tiny made the right decision for him and his future. Wish him the best of luck.

Munoz had bad knee injury issues. The NFL was going to pass on him after his medical review regardless of which year he came out
