Tired of "realism" on Thursday and Friday

I would figure it's the realism on Saturdays that is the more likely situation to be tired of.

Say what? I believe in my vols and Butch Jones but 22 true freshmen is reality. I think if we were home an upset could happen.

Reality is that I will be drinking multiple cold adult beverages and hoping the Vols play like their hair is on fire.

Realist coming in peace..... I really liked the OP and it brought back some great memories from the past (one which was last week) and did fire me up a little. Good post! I'm not gonna go realist on y'all, but if things don't go UT's way this Saturday, PLEASE don't start the FIRE BUTCH, this is another 5-7 team, etc. that some of you are going to probably do anyway. It's just not fair to those coaches and players that bust their azz everyday preparing and working on getting this program back where it once was. In other words, don't have a monumental meltdown over POSSIBLY losing to the #4 team in the country on their turf. That's all I ask. Now go back to your orange kool aid drinking party. Go Vols!

Have hope..jeeesh. why even watch sports if you can't believe your team can beat the unbeatable, conquer the unconquerable, win the unwinnable. It's what makes sports so great. I get it, reality is, on paper they have a better team. But, why be so adamant that we are all as miserable and negative as you "realists" about the outcome of this game. Personally, I choose to remain hopeful. I choose to have faith in our team. Great effort and energy, no matter the score. A showing that makes us proud. That in itself will be a victory

I think if we didn't have morons that start petitions to fire coaches after every unrealistic expectation isn't met, we wouldn't have so many overly pessimistic fans saying "pump the brakes". It's been a rough few years for all Vol fans. I'd imagine some have been around long enough to earn a little latitude for being cynical.

This is my issue with all of the we are going to win/the game is decided on the field folks, you say all this and get all pissy when someone points out the odds against us and then claim you will be calling for coaches heads on Monday if we lose.

Who cares about odds? Thats for Vegas. Also anyone calling for Butchs head if we lose this game is beyond stupid and should have to turn in their Vol card. Say what you want but this whole I'm a realist schtick is pure BS. All that is is ammo to use after the game so if we do lose you can come on here and gloat that you "predicted" a loss.

I get realism every damn day - it's running a company with livelihoods on the line and trying to transform the world a little bit every day. And it ain't easy.

Tennessee football is not for "realists". It's about hope; it's about pageantry, tradition; it's about doing the impossible; it's about going into Norman and whippin' dey azz when we have no business doing so.

It's about Peyton Manning to Joey Kent. It's about Josh Smith hurdling #3. It's about Chuck Webb and Travis Stephens going wild. Sometimes it's about Pig Howard stretching for that goalline and coming up an inch short.

I don't want to hear about "reality" on Thursday and Friday. If OK put 59 on us like Oregon last year, I'm going to go total Negavol on Bajakian and Jancek and call them Dooley 2, Electric Boogaloo. But that's for Monday.

Right now, I believe we gone go to Norman and gone whip. dey. azz.
Perfect place for this noted saying:

Hope springs eternal in the human breast;
Man never Is, but always To be blest:
The soul, uneasy and confin'd from home,
Rests and expatiates in a life to come.

Exactly!

Wait a minute...are you bringing home work to the pre-game optimistic drinking thread? Cause I don't want to spill bourbon on Mr. Pope's epistle...

I always watch and cheer for UT. I just know the same people claiming victory will be the same saying fire blank come Sunday.

Understandable. I never over exaggerate after a lose. Except for that one time we had Dooley as a coach.
