Titans Seek Evidence of Tampering in Albert Haynesworth Deal

...and since then we have had the best record in the league twice and have made the AFC Championship game another time. But no, no one ever considers the teams with home field advantage--or the final four teams left in the playoffs--contenders. Never.

and this year proved just that.

the fact that half the espn.com crew didn't even expect them to get out of their first playoff game proves that people will agree with me.

The fact that the fan poll went against them proves it even more.

The fact that the computer predicted them to get beat proves it even more.

It's just too annoying to try to find people's playoff predictions from before the playoffs in March. You either have to look really far back or they've been taken down. But just because you are being so persistent about this, I will find some. Most predicted a Titans-Steelers matchup. When that matchup was in Nashville and we had just beaten them 31-14 without Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch, we were contenders. I can promise you that.

That is laugh out loud funny. Seriously. You're cracking me up.

The fact that the Titans were generally accepted as the best team in the NFL entering the playoffs shows in itself that they were a contender. If they were not the favorite to make the Super Bowl, they were easily among the top three teams in the AFC and, according to odds, were the second most likely AFC team to make the Super Bowl. I would say that the people who set these lines know a little something about football. If the second-best team in a conference is not a contender, I don't know what is--especially since we had just absolutely dominated the Steelers.

Based on a specific matchup with the Ravens...that is such a stupid way to try to prove your point. These are the same fans that predicted us to go 6-10. Why would they not pick the Ravens...

why wouldn't they pick the better team? The best team in the AFC. The team that is the greatest of all time. Ever. The most awesome team ever assembled. Why wouldn't they pick the Titans?

because of how accurately it backs up my statement that no one considered a Super Bowl contender?

Do you not think of it as curious that the same people who predicted the Titans to reach at least the AFC Championship suddenly changed their minds and picked the Ravens? Could it be a specific matchup? There's a new idea.

By the way, if you're going to profess to talk about people who "know something about football," the fans and AccuScore have no place in this discussion.
At all.

so you were a "contender", until a team that was better than you came along? Great logic.

I thought you were trying to say something else. I agree with you. The Titans never get any respect. There are plenty of reasons for that though and it has little to do with our ability to win games or our coaches to coach.

Since you apparently missed this, I'll post it again...

they were accepted as the best team because of a record. The fact that no one was actually putting them in the Super Bowl proves what people really thought about them. The fact that they lost to Baltimore in their first playoff game proved that what the people thought about them was correct.

where are these odds?

ESPN:

Tennessee Titans

With Jason Jones poised to make a second-season jump and Jovan Haye added to the interior defensive line mix, the Titans are not desperate to replace Albert Haynesworth as many seem to believe.

Beyond Haynesworth, the Titans have lost little and should be in position to be a contender again. The big issue is the lack of playmakers.

ESPN:

Washington's first choice was to stay in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers didn't make a push for him in free agency. He visited the Detroit Lions and eventually settled with the Titans, where he will have a chance to play for an AFC contender.

get back to me when they start predicting Tenn to win games in the playoffs. We've yet to discuss the future. There have been websites showing that Washington has become an NFC contender.

by the way, I thought the Titans got all their players from drafts?

ESPN:

Wendell (Liverpool, UK): Why doesn't anybody think that the Panthers are contenders - they won the toughest division in the league

SportsNation Aaron Schatz: Search me, dude. I don't know. Perhaps people are not high on Carolina because we weren't expecting them to be this good before the season, but the same is true of Baltimore and Tennessee, and the Titans seem to have plenty of people who think they can win it all.

And sign role players/midlevel free agents...I've said that in almost every post I've made on the topic. We just don't blow all of our money and overpay huge names.

some hack from footballoutsiders.com over people working for ESPN and CBS picking them to lose to Baltimore?

Yeah, that's going to carry your argument
