the fact that half the espn.com crew didn't even expect them to get out of their first playoff game proves that people will agree with me.
The fact that the fan poll went against them proves it even more.
The fact that the computer predicted them to get beat proves it even more.
It's just too annoying to try to find people's playoff predictions from before the playoffs in March. You either have to look really far back or they've been taken down. But just because you are being so persistent about this, I will find some. Most predicted a Titans-Steelers matchup. When that matchup was in Nashville and we had just beaten them 31-14 without Haynesworth and Vanden Bosch, we were contenders. I can promise you that.

Based on a specific matchup with the Ravens...that is such a stupid way to try to prove your point. These are the same fans that predicted us to go 6-10. Why would they not pick the Ravens...
because of how accurately it backs up my statement that no one considered a Super Bowl contender?
Do you not think of it as curious that the same people who predicted the Titans to reach at least the AFC Championship suddenly changed their minds and picked the Ravens? Could it be a specific matchup? There's a new idea.
By the way, if you're going to profess to talk about people who "know something about football," the fans and AccuScore have no place in this discussion.
At all.

Since you apparently missed this, I'll post it again...
The fact that the Titans were generally accepted as the best team in the NFL entering the playoffs shows in itself that they were a contender. If they were not the favorite to make the Super Bowl, they were easily among the top three teams in the AFC and, according to odds, were the second most likely AFC team to make the Super Bowl. I would say that the people who set these lines know a little something about football. If the second-best team in a conference is not a contender, I don't know what is--especially since we had just absolutely dominated the Steelers.
ESPN:
Washington's first choice was to stay in Pittsburgh, but the Steelers didn't make a push for him in free agency. He visited the Detroit Lions and eventually settled with the Titans, where he will have a chance to play for an AFC contender.

Wendell (Liverpool, UK): Why doesn't anybody think that the Panthers are contenders - they won the toughest division in the league
SportsNation Aaron Schatz: Search me, dude. I don't know. Perhaps people are not high on Carolina because we weren't expecting them to be this good before the season, but the same is true of Baltimore and Tennessee, and the Titans seem to have plenty of people who think they can win it all.

The Titans can play the underdog card all they like, but after beating the Steelers, they are the favorite to win the AFC Championship Game.
