'19 TN ATH Adonis Otey (ARK Commit 8/1/18)

Who are you referring to?

No one SPECIFICALLY. Lot of impressive coaching minds with developed recruiting chops. Right now, I’d say Sherrer will be a HC in the not too far future. Tino Sunseri and Joe Osovet will need a coordinator position for their resume and a starter HC gig. The only coaches I don’t see going for their own show eventually are Rocker and Rumph. The longer this cast in Knoxville stay together, the more attachment to the university, imo.

Man, we borrow trouble more than any other program. I wouldn't concern myself with where Pruitt is going until he shows he can win here. And if he wins here I have no doubt Phil will make every effort to keep him here.

He doesn’t leave for anyone but Bama imo and Bama won’t necessarily hire the best available BAMMER as Kent State alumni Saban’s successor. It’ll be a national search.

If he does well enough for bama to want him I’d be thrilled

If he does well enough for Bama to want him, he will have developed a love for Tennessee and we can pay him. enough to keep him. I am not worried about him snuffing the VOLs and going to Alabama, Auburn or FSU.

Following Saban at Alabama is a suicide mission.

Seems like Rocker jumps around an awful lot. I doubt he stays more than a couple of seasons.

I fear/hope Helton will turn this offence around quickly and then be off to a HC position within a few years.

Good post and insight.

Define “awful lot”. Above the HS level he’s been exclusively a position coach and seems to follow the timeline of the HC that brings him in. In any case nothing inordinate for a DL coach. Pruitt brought him to UGA and left him there for Smart. I think he wants a home where he can teach and be stable.

I’d be more worried about Helton eventually taking his first HC opportunity if I wasn’t such a fan of Osovet and Sunseri. They’re not going to be analysts for long...or short. Beginning to be impressed with Weinke also.

I care because it shows he isn't wholly committed to Tennessee. It feels like he is just chomping at the bit to get back to Alabama when Saban retires...That bothers me, like he is just another Kiffining waiting to happen. I wish he would buy in to building his own legacy here. He could be an all time legend if he brings us back from the dead.

At Bama all he would ever be is the guy who couldn't live up to Saban's impossible legacy.

PS...I'm not really super concerned about it, it does does bother me a little bit, but I hope he grows to love it at UT if he is successful in rebuilding the program.

Didn't he (Rocker) have a year with the Titans? Too lazy to look it up.

Oversimplification...It is not just about a wardrobe, and I already said why.. anyways I don't want to argue about it.

Maybe he really doesn't like orange?

On the one hand, Butch wore lots of orange, but then introduced gray for team. Pruitt doesn't wear it much, but is insistent that the team should wear only orange. Not sure which I prefer.

Every UT golf polo I’ve ever owned is white with an orange power T, and the 2 UT hats I wear all the time are navy/gray with a white T and a rifleman, respectively. I must be only partially committed.

Worst case. You're right. What would it take for him to be Saban's successor? He would have to build UT into a winner, right? Then? If he leaves then the AD would be in the perfect position both monetarily and job wise to bring in someone as good or better.

This is FAR from being a concern...

Full disclosure: I'm a guy who likes the Smoky Greys and think they should be the standard home uniform. I think that's the best uniform I've seen in college football and especially the helmets.

I’m willing to bet Pruitt stays and builds his own legacy here. Saban can chase Bryant all he wants while Pruitt chases The General. CJP knows how big this job is, that and Tuscaloosa is a complete dump compared to Knoxville.

after hearing from tennessee more frequently in recent weeks, adonis otey visited the vols on tuesday for the first time since coach jeremy pruitt’s hiring. It didn’t take long for him to notice some differences in the program under tennessee’s new staff. The four-star junior cornerback from blackman high school in murfreesboro, tenn., joined teammate trey knox and fellow murfreesboro standout woodi washington, a four-star cornerback, in returning to knoxville on tuesday for a visit that allowed them to spend plenty of one-on-one time with pruitt. “i could tell coach pruitt is more serious about it, because he literally watched our whole tape — the playoff game when we played each other,” otey said, referring to blackman’s second-round playoff loss last year at crosstown rival oakland high school, where washington plays.

Otey said pruitt made it clear that he believes otey is “still a good player and a player that they could use,” but there’s “stuff that he wanted me to fix.” “he just wanted me to raise my motor when i’m playing,” said otey, who’s ranked the no. 357 overall prospect and no. 31 cornerback in the industry-generated 247sports composite for the 2019 class. “when i went to block woodi, i should have went and killed him. And after the play, when i’m running to the ball, he wanted me to run full-speed.”

otey said it “didn’t really hurt” to hear pruitt’s blunt assessment of his performance, adding, “my dad told me the same thing.” but he admitted it was different to hear it from a college coach. “that’s probably the first time a college coach has ever said it,” otey said. “i’ve never heard it before. But i understand, because he wants the best guys to come in and out.” otey said he liked what he heard from pruitt about his plans for turning around tennessee’s program, and he believes the vols will improve under pruitt.

“they said they want to be one of the premier teams in the country,” otey said. “i know he’s used to having good teams and good defenses, and where he came from, they were always successful because of his attitude and how he wants his players.” while otey didn’t hear all that much from tennessee in pruitt’s first couple months on the job, he said the vols have “been talking to me a lot recently,” led by cornerbacks coach terry fair. Pruitt also had talked with otey on the phone before tuesday’s visit. “i feel welcome now (at tennessee),” otey said.

During tuesday’s visit, pruitt let otey know the the vols are hoping to take a closer look at him during one of their camps last month. Otey said he “should” be able to attend one of them. “he just wants me to come work out with them one-on-one,” otey said of pruitt. “i’m going to try to get back in june.”

otey said he doesn’t have any additional visits “coming up soon,” and he doesn’t have a group of top college choices right now, adding that he’s “still looking.” he said arkansas, vanderbilt, south carolina, louisville, ohio state and michigan are among the schools talking with him most frequently. For now, he doesn’t know when he might be ready to decide on a college. “i might do it before senior season,” otey said. "i’m not sure.”

Replacing a winner is not easy. We have found that out the hard way, plus I am sick of coaching changes. I want to see somebody stick around and accomplish something real and lasting for a change. Either way he is here now, and whatever happens, happens.
