Taking a transfer with 4 scholarship players on the roster at RB is a bit much don’t you think? Especially when the injuries are not season ending, what’s the point in taking high school players that they evaluated and have seen in practice if they are just going to find someone to take a spot and snaps from the portal.Unless some bridges were burned in recruitment, it seems like a poor choice, imo, that TN wouldn't have interest. RB is very thin at the moment with Seldon injured and Sampson is the only RB with any relevant experience. If he gets injured we are looking at 2 Redshirt freshmen and a true freshman getting primary reps. That seems like a good way to get a QB injured.
Or I suppose NIL deal could be a factor. Maybe he's looking for a bag and we don't have the ability to accommodate what he's looking for. But that still seems like a poor reason not to at least pursue him.

Portal should be used for depth decencies or bad evals in HS recruiting to maximize the talent at a position…we have yet to give guys like Seldon and Keith a chance and the staff would love to give them a chance to prove it especially once Seldon gets healthy. Evidently the staff likes the talent they have on the roster
“What’s the point in bringing portal players?” Guys like Brazzell and Heard are coming here to start due to depth and to upgrade talent at said position which I already eluded to in my original post. We have 4 scholarship players at a position and we are currently maxed out on scholarships based on reductions.1. If your argument is that we need to play the players we recruited from High school, then what was the point in bringing in any Portal players?
2. We had 5 scholarship players at RB last year. We had 5 in 2022 as well. We also had 5 or 6 in 2021 depending on how you counted Dee Beckwith. So it seems like 5 schollys is the usual for us.
3. Seldon's injury isn't exactly minor. Yes, he should be back for fall practice, but you do have to wonder if it will linger into the season.
I don’t see NIL being a determining factor. Kid has nfl pedigree. Would imagine he’s mainly looking for a place that can give him a starting role, 3 down work, against top talent to showcase his skills for the nfl.Unless some bridges were burned in recruitment, it seems like a poor choice, imo, that TN wouldn't have interest. Wait, can’t we retroactively apply NIL to previous years like the ncaa was trying to do with their “guidelines”? Then we could just tell them to take those scholarship reductions and shove it.We're fighting scholarship reductions. We need to be at 82 or 83 when the season comes around. Right now, counting the summer enrollees, we're at like 84. We could roll with that and make more cuts another year, or we may see some guys leave after Spring practice. But numbers are still tight. I believe the portal officially opens on the 15th for football and runs to the 30th.
