'20 TN ATH Reggie Grimes (Oklahoma commit)

Not disagreeing but their class may be on another level than everyone else’s.[/QUOTE
They lead for like 7 or 8 5*s and three play the same position as Grimes. They have 11 commits and their average is 94.something, they are going to have a crazy class.
If something seems to good to be true it probably is. I think an NCAA wire tap or two may be in order here.

Five-star 2020 DE/LB Reggie Grimes II from Tennessee had Clemson as one of his favorites. Apparently, they told him to go play elsewhere. The Tigers no defensive ends and outside linebackers and no 5 star players as yet.

Man how nice would it be to be so good that you can tell a 5*, top 100 player to play elsewhere.

I think that his offensive tape is better than his defense. He would be a interesting prospect for a short yardage back that could also block and catch passes.

I agree with you. But I’ve watched him practice several times and he can’t catch very well. His upside is at OLB though, maybe the lightbulb click this year!

Do we really want this guy if Clemson turned him down?

They gave Keshawn Lawrence similar treatment. Let's see how Grimes' senior season goes before we decide we don't want him. I think his measurables are such that w/ elite coaching he could be a very good player. I'm not super concerned about his high school pass rushing stats. We were 5-7, I don't think we're in a position to be turning away 5 stars, if this guy in fact does retain his high ranking.

As they should.

I'm just implying that Grimes is not 5 star. Not even a 4 star imo. Dabo built his now monster program the right way. He knows what a winner looks like. You don't get there by signing kids like Grimes, Malik Gray or any other 'camp warrior" that doesn't actually produce on the field. It's not a physical thing with this guy, either. It's just not in his personality to be a dominant player.

Reminds me of Cory Robinson out of Knoxville Central back in 1999
How could you possibly know that? Do you know him personally?

I'm wondering if Clemson thinks Grimes is overrated. No team turns down a potential All-American (based on 5* rating) at DE.

Never thought of that. But you would think that if Bama thinks he is good enough that Clemson would as well. It will be interesting going forward to see how this goes.

well, they probably do have guys in the fold, committed or not right now, that htey're comfortable with....

and if you're going to be known as an honest recruiter, then you have to be honest.

sure the optics of this don't look right....but i'm sure by the time signing day(s) roll around, Clemson won't be struggling to find pass rushers ro DL...

i mean, they've turned out some monster DL/DE's the past few years......i'm sure they're getting interest from a lot of def line prospects.....

i say that's fine, cause we need guys like Grimes....and even though it's an obvious battle with Bama (who apparently really wants him btw), not having Clemson in the fold, helps our cause.......

Why do I have to know him personally to know if he's underrated???

By "personality" I'm referring to his on field persona. It's pretty obvious he's a passive player and not even close to being a 5 star or Elite football player. Watch his tape. Look at his very mediocre production. You don't have to know his aspirations and motivations to understand his current ability....

That's very hard to tell from a 5 minute video clip imo.

Why in the hell do we care what recruiting services rank someone?
