'20 TN ATH Reggie Grimes (Oklahoma commit)

Malik Gray also had all that.
Very similar demeanor

Not sure it's a demeanor problem with Maleik as much as it is he's stuck between positions. And anyway, he's a RS Soph, so he could still make an impact.

Watched Gray twice during his HS days. Would not have even known he was on the field unless you knew he was committed to the Vols.

Let's be realistic here he has elite build and athleticism but that's not manifesting on the stat sheet. I'd love to have the kid and he has tremendous potential but we've been bitten so many times by potential that I'm not going to cry if this kid goes elsewhere. He's overrated currently BC of the perception he's a Bama lean IMO.

he played a lot lb too per Callahan. Callahan dismissed HS stats as the greatest metric because of this and other things. He may have a point, go look at maxpreps and there are kids with 30, 40 TFLs who don't have d1 offers.
are those kids 6'-5" 230ish with freakish speed?
I have no idea how good Grimes is. could be the greatest. I just find the measurables compared to production a little iffy. idk, maybe they triple teamed him the whole game, while he fought up hill, in the rain, with his shoes tied together.

It's hard to look like Von Miller on film if you're a HS pass rusher. He stands up, finds the ball, and goes after it. That's all that's required of him. He'll have to learn to attack the edge with waist bend and use his hands and athleticism to get depth. He has all the tools. Like all of them. Even if he can't pass rush for some reason, stick him at tight end. Kid was the 200m champion in his district? I think. Seems like some bitter Vol syndrome- whoever he chooses should be happy about it. Jmhofwiw

Little Grimes don’t caught the ball well at all. TE would not be a good fit for him. I know on his light film he caught a pass but that’s not the norm he has issues caughting a 5 yards out. His best position right now is running back because kids are honestly afraid to tackle him in high school. Like many of you said he is a great athlete as far as running and jumping. But lateral quickness and agility he must work on. His dad coaches at NPA defensive line so lm sure he’s working hard on his weaknesses.

Running back is not even close to being his best position.

This made my head hurt.

Vols have made a move with a guy like Tate Ratledge, seriously in the mix with 5-stars Reggie Grimes and Justin Rogers.

Seriously have a shot with Grimes?
Chance? Yes. Dad has given Reggie the green light to go wherever he feels is the best fit. Alabama is a big challenger but Tennessee and Clemson are pushing hard. If guys like Baron and Lawerence end up with the Vols, then Grimes has an even tougher decision to make.

Telling them not to till they are sure? Damn right. Guys can have a favorite or a lean without committing. Did you see Ratledge retweeting Cooper in UT gear?

But.... but Newt...

Alabama already has like their whole class filled except for the spots left for all the guys we want...

And we only have like 4 people...

And one of them is a 2-star... nobody wants to come to Tennessee :(

He gone

Jacob Phillips did not impress me at all with his play until his senior year. So I'll wait and reserve an opinion on Grimes until his senior season.

It's not bitter, it's realistic. We have a former teammate of his that has a much more impressive statistical impact while they played together. That kid is a walkon for us.

I would be happy to have him. He has tremendous potential. Do I think he's a five star, can't miss player? Not really.

Not a foregone conclusion. I do think Alabama should be viewed as the favorite, but with Clemson now apparently out of the picture — it sounds like the Tigers are full at DE — it’s probably safe to say that Tennessee is among the Crimson Tide’s main competition for him right now. Given Pruitt’s relationship with Grimes’ father, if there’s any team capable of pulling off the upset, it’s probably the Vols. But it’s obviously going to take a lot of work.
