I think Butch would be a good coach on a small stage. There was too much pressure on the big stage for him. I think coaching here, broke him. KS walked into a perfect situation for any coach. Stocked cupboards and willingness to skirt the rules. We got the exact opposite with cornbread.
Jimbo spent a boat load of money to get the best players and still couldn't win because he didn't spend enough on a QB. He had defense and WR, RB, but QB he went bargain bin.
I don’t entirely disagree, but it even more muddies the water of evaluating the HC position if certain coaches are only good coaches in specific situations.

I tend to believe that a good coach is someone that can make his team consistently competitive at whatever level of competition they’re playing.

It just seems wiser to hold off on declaring coaches good OR bad without sizable data to prove otherwise. The fact is most coaches are average. It’s an incredibly difficult job to separate yourself from the pack which is why they’re paid so well but also fired in such large numbers annually.

Drinkiwtiz is a good coach. He found a winning formula for that roster this year.
He then got the in-state NIL law going in Mssouri for recruits as well.

He'was good at App State too. Won the Sun Belt his 1st year i think.
SEC Coach of the year this season in 2023.

Anyone saying heś a bad coach is absolutely ridiculous.
Not every coach has to suck, so that ours can be good.

Child minds...
This is a fair perspective.

I'm still undecided on Drink. He won at App State with Satterfield's players and was only there 1 season, so we never saw how the program would look with him for the long-term.

He's had 1 good season out of 4 at Mizzou, with some high-end talent at the skill positions. He definitely might be successful long-term, but I could also see him being one of those guys that everyone is high on after 1 good season, before reversion to the mean occurs.

So I don’t care that we lost this guy to Mizzou. What gets me is the smug look you know Mizzou fans have on their faces, thinking they just dunked on UT after they did it on the field for the first time in 5 years. The thing is, like USCjr fans, Mizzou doesn’t know who they’re messing with. USCjr fans spent all off-season rubbing that game in our faces and UT fans (sometimes) calmly told them the bill was coming due September 30th. And it did. I don’t care if the next time we play Mizzou is 2025. UT does not forgive or forget. We are going to run Mizzou off the field and into the Tennessee River the next time they come to Neyland.

uh…..Mizzou did beat the vols in 2023 in men’s hoops twice, baseball, and football. Maybe they do know who their messing with 🤔

I think McCoy was a planned addition regardless of what this kid decided.
Might have taken both, with the numbers and required NIL, I don't have a clue. Also don't know if WE had a preference one over the other or if they were considered a push. But what you said was........

As for me personally I would’ve liked to have had this kid or a similar CB added but I don’t think it’s a big miss either. You can add similar or better via the portal.

I am thinking AND hoping this guy with his viewable experience at the p5 level is better for our IMMEDIATE need than a potentially problematic HS player. NEVER KNOW FOR SURE one way or the other.

I am tickled that IT APPEARS we got our solutions at CB and TE and forced our competition to dig deeper in their NIL coffers. KY coach publicly admitted that.

More interested to see what he does the year after. They’ll be solid again next year most likely + a favorable schedule
they definitely have the easiest schedule next year. if they aren't 10-2 again it should be considered a failure.

They just signed both off & def coordinators to extensions this afternoon it was announced. Sounds like Drink is keeping staff stable.

They beat us with a less talented roster......... If you want to spin it that way I'm not sure I like what that says about our coaches/program. That being said I disagree with you.
According to 247 talent ratings Florida had a more talented roster last year. Florida has been down but it's not because the talent on the team. They were the 5th most talented team and we were 6th

Florida was a bad team; we should’ve smashed them. They will never be talentless but that’s likely as bad as a Florida team gets; of course Billy is on track to field another terrible team this year.

I don't disagree that they were bad. But in terms of raw talent they have it. They weren't good and we should have won.

No, we got owned on both lines of scrimmage. That's not pissing down your leg. That's just getting beat.
All of the above. Regardless, Tennessee simply sucked that night. Worst performance of the season, IMO, and we were bad in Columbia, MO.

Why getting a highly rated DL is/was so important in this class.

I cannot for the love of me understand how we have whiffed so badly here.

And before the Orange Tinters come to shoot me. We played well enough to win 8 games. Imagine if we've stuff Misery and Flarduh.

lol. They are 2-4 against us in football. That includes 2 losses to Pruitt. No they don’t know who they are messing with
