-CallahanAfter naming a top 10 of USC, Oregon, LSU, Miami, tennessee, Ole Miss, Florida, Clemson, Auburn and Oklahoma in late March, he admitted to GoVols247 last month that he already had a top five “in my head.”
At the time, Lawrence suggested it might be August or September before he decided on a college. But now he’s thinking a summer decision is possible.
“I had to realize I’m trying to help my team recruit,” said Lawrence, who’s ranked by 247Sports as the No. 59 overall prospect and No. 3 safety in the 2020 class and the No. 1 rising senior from the state of Tennessee.
“I’ve got to hurry up and get that rolling before it gets too late — especially after, like, the whole Clemson incident to where we can’t even commit there no more because all the players took up the spots or whatever. And I don’t want to be left out of a school I’d like to attend, so I’ve got to get things rolling, and I know I can do it.”
-CallahanTennessee has hosted Lawrence on three visits since late March, and he used his first official visit in early April to travel to LSU.
He said he has continued to talk with Vols coach Jeremy Pruitt’s staff “every day,” adding that he has stayed in contact with “everybody” on Tennessee’s staff.
While the Vols have invited him to make the trip to Knoxville again this month, he said he primarily has focused on visiting other schools since he has seen plenty of Tennessee lately.
“They tried to get me up there,” Lawrence said. “But I’ve been up there too much, so I’m just chilling right now.
I was just like, ‘I have to see a lot of other schools, my other options or whatever.’ But they understand, though, because I haven’t been to that many places.”
He also discussed traveling to South Carolina sometime this month, perhaps even on an official visit. But he hasn’t been there, either.
“I didn’t end up going,” Lawrence said. “I was too busy.”
