'19 TN CB Maurice Hampton

"Mo J" is one special kid. He's very talented in football but I think he's even better at baseball.
I've been watching this kid play both sports for the last 8 years. Miss. State offered him in the 8th grade if I remember correctly....
LSU wants him to play both sports.
Would love him to be a Vol but I don't see it happening.

he's going to visit vitello while he's here as well. i don't recall anything for sure, but i didn't see anything saying he wouldn't be afforded the opportunity to play baseball here.

i don't think we'd let that be a dealbreaker in other words.

Let me put it this way. If he is wanting to play college baseball in the SEC....Tennessee might not be very high on his list of teams to play for at this moment.

i can see that. i dunno what the priority is for him, football or baseball, so that would tell a lot.

of course, if he's projected that high in the MLB draft, then it may be a moot point.

at this point, my comments are coming from the position that's he's primarily a football kid that wants to also play baseball....and if so, then i don't know that being at TN for baseball would be a deal breaker as long as he gets to play.

either way, i'm sure Pruitt will find out, one way or the other.

If he is a top 10 pick he needs to just go ahead and play baseball . Can come back and play football if that doesn’t work .

Poster said top 10 round, not top 10 pick.

Still, if he is a top 5 round pick and they offer a 100 thou +, signing bonus, there would be a good chance he would bite, especially if loves to play baseball more than football.

Btw, did Mookie Betts sign with UT and then decided to sign with the Sox after being drafted ? I know Betts wasn't playing football and drafted really high in baseball, but I can't remember how it all went down, exactly. It's just everytime I see Betts go off, I think of what could have been

I'm not debating whether he will or won't go if drafted in round X. Just clarifying that the poster didn't say top 10 pick.

Betts was signed to Tennessee, but was drafted in the 5th round and went ahead and turned pro. Worked out well for him.

Thanks. I knew what u meant, I was just speaking generally. Betts went in round 5 ? Wow, what a steal. Baseball is so hard to draft for, no wonder there's like 50+ rounds

Agreed. How do I put this delicately so that it won’t offend? UT baseball sucks the hell out loud right now.

Yes, but I actually was more impressed with what Coach V did this year than the last 2 coaches did in their 8 or 9 years combined.

Edit: Well, except for the mini-collapse in the last 2 series

“Maurice Hampton is set to be on campus this weekend after the state baseball tournament concludes in Murfreesboro. This will be his first time in Knoxville and it's thanks to the relentless approach by Pruitt, Terry Fair and David Johnson. Those three have been on him to get up for a look and he felt like this weekend was perfect with him half way here due to baseball. ”

an "it's on the way, so why not" trip.

kinda sucks. but, he could come away really impressed, and it totally be worth it.

He’s a LSU commit. What’s the worst scenario? He stays with them?

So is this guy better than Bush, Burrell, Fields etc?

probably burrrll on this list, maybe you could debate bush and fields? this kid though seems legit.

i think most would say if we could get Hampton, Bush and Fields....that'd be niiiiiiice.
