'24 TN DB Boo Carter (Tennessee)

Make this make sense. It’s becoming apparent that Boo is pretty electric on offense. Heupel has shown he is without question one of, if not the top offensive mind in college football. So I find it really hard to believe that Heupel would want him on defense instead of offense. Are we positive CJH wants him on defense??

no

I'm almost positive that Boo confirmed in one of the post-visit videos that Tennessee was recruiting him for defense. Maybe the January junior day visit.

Seems like his mom said on here a while back that he preferred defense. My guess is when they first started recruiting him and building this class that’s where he wanted to play. So they likely banked on him taking a DB slot instead of a WR or RB slot in the class, and now that they’ve seemingly backed off of Banks and Ricardo Jones at S and really only have 2 other CBs on their board that they know will play corner (Chase Tyler seems to want to play offense too and apparently we’re recruiting Mikell as a WR and Demello Jones is going to be a tough pull from Georgia) in Cai Bates and Santana Wilson they’re sort of in a situation where they have to take him as a DB. This is why I said it’s good to keep backup options open the other day in regards to Ricardo Jones. Then was chastised for saying so

Now he’s playing for a team with another player already committed to TN. He mentioned him as a reason he came to Bradley. Can’t hurt.
I never worried about this one. And while it makes 0 sense his commitment date is a full week before his TN official, and after his MI official. AP still says we lead. Hard to imagine a TN kid wanting to leave THIS team and THIS program, to go play in the cold led by a nutcase.

Where would the top offensive mind In football NEED the most talented players?? Hint. If you’re getting Central Florida WRs and Tillman and Hyatt drafted you don’t need 5 star WRs. Especially in a class where you’re probably going to land 2 5 star WRs without Carter.

Boo is a completely different kind of weapon altogether. There was another kid from the area that was a similar type of athlete that we only offered as a DB too. His name was Jahmyr Gibbs and he turned out to be the 12th pick in the draft this past season. It’s not very often we have a prospect down the road from us that has All SEC potential at multiple spots on both sides of the ball. If the staff has to tell him they’re taking him as an ATH rather than a DB to get him in the program they should do it. Start him out on offense then if he doesn’t crack the rotation give him the option to transfer or switch to defense, but at least do what’s necessary to get him through the door

Good grief they may be recruiting him for defense but if he's that good i'm sure he'll get touches.
That may work in the HBCU with Travis Hunter or 2-3 games with Charles Woodson, but not in today’s SEC. Because if he gets hurt you lose a starter on both sides of the ball. Also he likely wants to play offense because WRs get paid more than safeties in the NFL. Recruiting him to play defense and giving him 8-10 snaps on offense isn’t going to be enough to get him to the league as a WR. At least give the kid the opportunity. Especially with how he’s performed at camps this off-season. Worst case scenario it doesn’t work out and he either leaves and we replace him or he sticks around and moves to DB

Is there anything tangible here beyond a “feel” from Michigan insiders? Seems odd that a pretty major sticking point (wanting to play on the other side of the ball) would suddenly become an issue a week and a half before his decision

AP said it could make things interesting and it wouldn’t surprise him if he picked Michigan

Constantly telling the coaching staff what and not to do, like they’re really going to listen to a random person to tell them how to do their job.

Boo family wants him to play offense, Boo also trusts this staff and he absolutely loves the culture and team and the idea of these guys being his teammates and current commits are actively recruiting him as well, And UT has not told him 100% he'll be defense only.
well there ya go, morans.

Ah yes, because opinions aren’t allowed on here are they? I’d be willing to bet every person on here thinks they should take Boo as an offensive player of that’s what it takes to get him on the roster. They just don’t want to say it because they think everyone should “trust the staff’s evaluation”, but what happens if Matthews ends up as Kam Fountain 2.0 and goes to USC or Wingo and Jefferson ends up at Georgia or God forbid both or all 3 happens? Or we just land 1 of them and end up stuck with Dubose (coming off an injury) maybe Chase Tyler, and Lopa? Because I’d take Boo at WR over Dubose and Lopa both. I mean this IS the same staff that took Nate Spillman at WR almost solely to lock his brother up at LB this class. Is it really that big of a deal to take Boo as a WR (who is probably better right now than Nimrod and Spillman already and is the 3rd best WR prospect on our board even if they don’t see him as a WR) just so he doesn’t get away? I know we lead for a lot of studs right now, but this staff has failed to close on Tate, Kasper, and Benson last year and have already had 2 WR commits flip in this class. So I don’t think it’s BS at all to take him as a WR considering there’s a possibility he could end up being the best one they land
