TN defense caught off guard

It was such a bad performance I seriously started to wonder if they were taking a dive. Has the mafia been around our program recently?

I think our defense will always be mediocre to poor with the style of offense we run. Even Alabama has taken a few steps back after going to the spread in the past few years. Granted it shouldn’t be anywhere near as bad as tonight but it’s not going be anywhere near Georgia anytime soon.

You are going to struggle at times and be on the field more, so depth and conditioning are super important, but there is no reason to we should ever be as bad we were tonight. Gotta at least usually be in the right places to contest plays and gotta finish tackles.

I also think Rattler was just on tonight and showed his actual talent. TN just happened to be the opponent.

I definitely think they deserve some credit, and Rattler for sure has some gifts and looks good when he is clicking, but we still should have made more plays to get them off the field more often than we did.

Not calling blitz's in obvious blitzing situations didn't help.
Florida…easily a similarly bad defense only allowed SC to score 6 points. This should be a fireable offense for members on TN’s defensive staff. We have enough talent to be better than almost dead last in the country against the pass. It’s been bad for two years.

He played well tonight. Even when our coverage was pretty good, they made plays. Their fourth TD, the pass to the pylon on the left, was just a very good play. We were terrible, yes, but SC played well.

High in our own farts and walked face first into a buzzsaw.
I don't think it was even that. They've proven throughout the year that it's "next game up" and kept moving. We couldn't handle the pass game because the secondary just lacks the proper fundamentals. How can you be first in offense, with a respectable run stop. it's like we're ranked 1st,1st,2nd,108th. I'm sorry, what??????

No, the pass defense has been terrible all year, when the O isn't playing up to standards. Defense can't carry the team

But Willie sez "Let 'em catch it, THEN tackle 'em after they pick up yards"..... but....

Maybe prevent 'em from catching it in the first place? Dunno.... seems like something you should do, but y'know.... what do I know?

I do think the way we play zone seems to rarely get good results for us. I’d rather we blitz more and maybe get burned here and there than keep letting them find one of the open guys of which there seems to be at least one of nearly every play and then struggling to catch them and bring to the ground.

3rd and twenty though. Guy wide open, spencer could have fixed and eaten a sandwich back there.
You know. Teams are going to make that 3d and 20 sometimes but when it comes to TN, it's a regular thing for two seasons and that has got to be addressed.
With the way the game is played now, you have got to take advantage of those 3rd and forever's because if it's 4rd and 4, teams that used to punt it away are going for it on a constant basis

He was good for sure and also we were terrible. I wish we could’ve at least hit him more and made him pay for his results. We had a couple good ones, but if we can’t stop their passes with our original plan, seeing how Rattler handles some rattling might have been worth trying harder to find out.

They were caught off guard the min they got off the plane. Of course, it shouldn't be surprising since we have been overrated all year. The offense has covered up a lot of the defensive deficiencies. They simply suck.

The coaching staff knew the Wildcat was going to be ran tonight.
They made no changes...Zone, play off the guy 10-15yrds. Same bend, don't break, well if metal keeps getting bent, eventually it fatigues and breaks.
That secondary is horrible. I know it's Jimmys and ]Joes but you can coach players up to be serviceable. I've seen no coaching up. Playing Zone and giving up 7/10 yards constantly and not being able to stop 3rd and forever for 2 seasons has got to be addressed and by addressed some changes on the Defensive staff has to be made...

looked just like last yrs defense

If TN's secondary coach can't teach TNs DBs how to turn and look for the ball.....

I can NOT do the same thing for the several hundred $ he's getting paid.....

Gee.... while I sit on my couch I can tell TNs DBs to do...... whatever....... give me a bunch of $

Our front is not getting any pressure without a blitz. Offenses are now keeping enough blockers in to pick up the blitz. A good QB needs 2.5 seconds to be effective. Tonight, USEe has double that . The secondary may not be good , but any secondary cannot stay in coverage for 4 , 5. and 6 seconds.

Tell me about it...seems simple
Guys...I want you to play ohhh let's say 10-15 yrds off the guy, watch him catch it and then try and tackle him as he runs past your for a 20yrd pick up.
Let me sprinkle in a 2 or 3 blitzes to keep the fans happy.
