I thought the same, on straight line speed. I think he's playing LB in HS based on high football IQ and team need. Probably playing TE for same reasons. I'm guessing Garner must be seeing him as a DE from the skill categories he has cited in describing Gentle: bend, leverage, flexibility, change of direction, etc.Slow compared to what? Isn’t he supposed to be a SDE or DT in college? Looks plenty fast for that to my untrained eye? As long as CRG wants him then that’s good enough to me!
CG highlights from Woodward.
Highlights (like Luck) = Preparate + Opportunate
I don't think he is going to break any sprinting records, but he is quicker than it looks. He looks slow to be honest. But he does find the ball quick, that's good.
How tall is he now?I don't think he is going to break any sprinting records, but he is quicker than it looks.
He is a 250 pound DE playing LB. So, yeah--running next to WRs and CBs, I agree.
He runs a high 4.7 low 4.8. I think as a D lineman, the 5-10-5/shuttle and L cone/three cone are relevant. His numbers there are 4.3-4.4 on the 5-10-5/shuttle and 6.9 on the L cone/3 cone. Those are pretty good. He also has a 35" vertical and 118" standing broad jump. Not that those indicate speed--but are relevant to athleticism.
As for his weight, he weighs 250 and carries most of the weight in his quads/glutes--so he will add good weight to his lats/chest/shoulders that will improve his punch and hands. I think Garner is happy with his weight now, but I would expect him to play at 260 to 285 in college.
What a chump. Just because it's an away game is no excuse to mail it in on your other duties.I found video of McCallie's season opener. Gentle played offense, defense, and special teams.
At the end of the first half, playing with no timeouts, Gentle ran a seam route from the TE position and caught a 28-yard pass to set up a touchdown.
Early in the 2nd half, playing middle linebacker, he stripped a running back in the middle of the line at the 22, and ran the fumble in for a touchdown.
Late in the game, when the extra-point holder bobbled the snap and sprinted out with the ball, Carson caught the pass for a 2-point conversion.
Of course, he did not sell programs or man the concessions stand, as this was an away game.

If you compare him to another recruit of similar height/weight like Danny Okoye, he does indeed look slow. The good thing is that he doesn't need great straight line speed to be effective at SDE or DT. His wrestling background should help, but he's still likely to need at least 2 years of development to see the field. That's the case with most 3* caliber athletes in the trenches though. It's not a big deal. A 3* is still someone who should be dominant at the high school level.Has zero to do with anything. Race baiting isn't gonna work hoss. He looks slow to me, it's just an opinion.
