'20 TN DT Omari Thomas (UT SIGNEE)

Kiffin was given the keys to the kingdom at USC, one of the most historic programs on the West Coast, a program with endless resources in a division that only dreams of being as strong as the SEC West and he proceeded to get canned for not meeting expectations. I'm not exactly concerned with him.

He was dealing with huge scholarship restrictions and depth when he took over at SC. He had to Coach and recruit a team with a 2 yr bowl ban and lost 30 scholarships over 3 yrs..imagine Pruitt only being able to sign 15 instead of 25 for the next 3 yrs. Also Jr's and Sr's were allowed to transfer without sitting out. He lost 6+ his first yr at USC, 2 of which transferred to Tn. Year 2 he won the Pac 12 but sanctions kept them out of the Pac 12 Championship game and finished ranked 6th in the country. He finished 28-15 at USC, which was remarkable considering he scholarship and transfer losses. Very few, if any Coach's would have done any batter. He was in a no win situation and far exceeded what should have been expected.

I would be more worried about Kiffin snatching someone off of our coaching staff, like Coach Johnson, than any of our recruits this year.

Johnson is one guy I'd have no problem losing. He's not exactly bringing us elite RB's in nor have our RB's looked anything more than average. There will be some Coaching attrition on the staff and it's a chance to upgrade the RB Coaching position. Jay Graham would be my first call.

Well Pruitt was just getting this ship righted. No way he can succeed here with Lane at Ole Miss.

If it hasn't been noticed, Pruitt is trying to establish a footprint in areas we haven't traditionally recruited.

Lane is going to have to win some meaningful games first. He isn't going to waltz into Oxford and pull a Top-10 class this winter.
Didn’t Freeze pull this off in full year 1. Definitely not possible this year.

I am definitely not worried. It’s just competition which will ebb and flow over time. If we don’t have the skills and guts to compete then shut down the program.

I would hate to lose Johnson. He is a very good coach and decent recruiter. He has a good relationship with HS coaches in Memphis and we are beginning to recruit better there. I would keep him as a coach on my team.

Could put T on QBs, slide Johnson back to WR, and bring in a RB coach

I am sure that there will be some recruits that both schools will be recruiting in the future that do not value character and integrity and the game will be on. It is interesting that there are now two HC in dthe SEC West that were involved in calling about a dozen students, 11 already on campus if I remember correctly, and telling them not to go to class the next day following the surprise flight to USC... I am betting this was done using a UT phone, and on a day they were still on UT payroll, and were here because we paid them to get them here. Of course Kiffin had other documented loyalty issues while here.

Despite the current success at LSU, I am confident that this inherent lack of character will eventually cause problems there and Kiffin will have to fight his reputation in his new role as well. Really kind of surprised that Ole Miss has hired both of them. Not fast learners. Hope they put strong morals clauses in his agreement. Wonder if he is going to name his next child Oxford. Don't know if he will find a toddy, but look forward to the accounts of him finding a hotty down there.

For a full disclosure, I don't like Kiffin, did not attack him while he was here and hoped he could grow up while here, but was glad he was gone, even though our admin doubled down on bad hires and we have all paid the price. We could have come out a winner with better decisions following his departure. But we played the son of very successful pro and college coach card evidently placing way too much faith in heredity.

I like Lane but will never understand the fear of someone who has never had any sustained success at any coaching stop..... The myth/legend is definitely bigger than the results he has had.

Lane is the only coach that I know of to be hired after such school received a reference letter from a prominent source that stated if you hire him that he WILL destroy your program. People think he is a great offensive coordinator but after watching him in the UCLA, Ole Miss, and Virginia Tech games in 2009 I concluded that he was radical but far from great.

This is a gross misrepresentation of what David Johnson does for Tennessee's recruiting. Without him, the Vols likely don't land the Whitehaven kids. Without him, they probably aren't in it with Jabari Small or Omari Thomas as much. He's been huge in the Memphis area, and he has ties to Louisiana, too.

This fanbase is so battered. So if it's not Kiffin and Ole Miss it's Norvell and FSU we're worried about? Come on. Tennessee is in great shape for the future and is a Top-10 program all-time and we're worried about two programs trying to claw their way out of the ditch pulling our coaches and recruits.

You have to give Johnson credit for NOT being a lazy recruiter. He kept in contact with Jabari Small and the Whitehaven 3 even when it looked like they were not at the top of UT's board. However, it's not like any other Coach recruiting the Memphis area could have easily done the same thing.

Kiffin has destroyed every program he has been the leader of. If he is successful at Ole Piss, Hugh Freeze episode 2 renamed the Kiffin Show. They “Ole Piss” will be in worse shape when he leaves than today.

FAU turned out alright. I think Kiffin has learned from all of his mistakes and will make the most of the Ole Miss job.

I wonder who is going to pay all of the co-Ed’s child support payments, will it come out of Joey Freshwaters check or is the ole Miss athletic department going to pay? No way he will be able to last around the grove.

He just won a championship at FAU. How is that destroying that program? They were nothing before he got there. Kinda sounds like you still hate him for leaving UT.
