OK, I keep seeing this coming up in recruiting threads, and I have been out of the loop for a while, so I need to understand why this affects us. My understanding is that as of July 21 (according to UT sports.com), UT authorized student athletes to make money off NIL. If so, why should other schools doing the same tip the balance in their favor?

In other words, what do they have that we don’t?

NIL is going to further separate the haves and the have nots. Teams who have the $$ and connections are going to benefit.

The amount A&M is willing to offer far exceeds what UT is willing to offer. NIL is just the new fancy word for bagman.

Thanks for clarifying. I did not know that each school was allowed to dictate their own compensation amount.
I’m sure there must be a reason why they haven’t done this, but to level the playing field there should be a standard maximum amount allowed by each school. As it is now, you’re right, the only difference between this and a bag man is a legal loophole.

Compensation can’t come from the school nor can the school or coaches arrange for a players NIL deal. But wink wink nod nod I’m not arranging a deal, but my gosh a booster just walked into my office while I was talking to you, why don’t y’all get to know each other while I go out for lunch.
it’s still a shady business I’m not 100% how it all gets arranged but feel I’m close on how it does. Someone has to set the meet without setting the meet.

Nothing has changed with the NIL except you can publicly acknowledge that these top recruits are getting paid.
Everyone with influence on a kids decision is still getting paid under the table, Schools, Coaches aren’t supposed to be arranging deals, but it’s bussiness as usual.
Same ole same ole if you’re following the new rules you ain’t gonna winning many recruiting battles

He will commit to them this weekend. He goes every week and already knows what they have to offer. Im sure he is already working business deals At this point. Not saying this as a negative comment, I just believe that is what is happening.
