'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

I want Nolan as much as anyone and his recruitment isn’t over yet. But either way to say this staff can’t recruit at this juncture is silly. And just as important in a staff is the ability to coach players up. We will end up with plenty of players to help us. A little patience folks, it’s obvious we have a coach. We will get our share. GBO!!!!
Of course I want high star recruits but I am more excited to have a coaching staff that can improve the recruits we do get. I have not seen that in years at UT.

I am enjoying another win. First road win over a ranked team in 37 tries. A chance to win 8 but certainly 7 when most were saying 5 wins to begin the year. We are under a NCAA investigation and low roster numbers and tons of injuries and yet two plays away from maybe 9 regular season wins. You are the problem because all you see is mediocrity when we’ve not even been that for a long time. I see really great progress despite everything. You be miserable while the rest of us celebrate. Players will come but expecting it for 22 class just shows your ignorance. We don’t need your money. Stay home.
Guys like that are the sickening underbelly of VolNation..🤬 em all.

NIL deals can already be done in TN. DW Designs, the cookie thing Taylor has, etc. etc. There is a new law effective next year but that’s not stopping it from happening now. If Nolen was still in west TN this would be less of a big deal. National news will just report Knoxville area 5* going out of state rather than play for Vols. Nobody outside out fanbase will care how long he’s lived here or where he came from. It’s a one sentence story that fits a narrative. At this point it does not matter where they get them from but this staff has to land some elite recruits to prove that their program is a destination.

Heupel is going to have to get more proven recruiters if he hopes to be successful in the SEC. CRG can't do everything and you aren't beating bama, uga, and Florida every year with 86s and 87s. Flame away but show someone who has done it consistently if you do.

And also, sanctions against UT, because of Pruitt, are still in the back of a lot of kids minds...We'll make it through...again patience!!

You're not giving up on this false narrative are you? By all accounts, recruits are responding very well to this staff but negative recruiting has hurt them. We'll see how they do without that cloud hanging over them.

FWIW, Doug Matthews said on his show today that Vols' biggest problem in recruiting is that prospect-age kids do not see UTK as a "cool" (he said this word was a quote from young men that he's talked with recently) place to play football. It's not NIL, facilities, coaching, or any of the other stuff. Just not cool. Only way to make it cool is to get some bell cows to lead in the herd.

What a lame excuse

The problem is a lack of continuity with the coaches. Five (5) head coaches over the last twelve (12) years including the current season. That doesn’t include two (2) interim coaches within seasons. Hard for kids to build relationships and trust in the fact that the carousel won’t continue. We need to stabilize our coaching ranks and hopefully Heupel is the answer. Do that, along with a better winning percentage, and recruiting will get easier.

I think I heard that in college football recruiting, the assistants develop the relationships, but the head coach is ultimately the closer. If that is the case Heupel has to close, because the only thing stopping us from greatness is quality depth.
