'22 TN DT Walter Nolen (Ole Miss)

Unless he’s playing a high tempo offense like UT’s that doesn’t allow the D to sub…never mind, he could just Ole Miss it

He just wouldn’t come in, in those types of situations. See Georgias 99. That guy couldn’t hang with our tempo and he didn’t play a lot because they couldn’t get him back on the field and then ended up injured.

People are just trying to bash the kid as mechanism for coping since he isn’t committed to us. If he was a Vol, he’d be hailed as the next Reggie White by this board.

So, every opinion of Nolen has to be overwhelmingly positive because he's a 5 star? And we are just hater's because he's not committed to us? Logic, smh..

The kid is uber-talented, but has some obvious issues with effort and endurance....both clearly evident in last night's game. Will it be an issue down the road? Let's hope not if he comes here...

Some folks just naturally get upset when their opinion doesn't come out of other's mouths....

does money motivate people?

It’s already been known that the kid is talented but his conditioning is not where it needs to be for a 5* DT.

No matter where he goes, he’s going to have to put in the work to get better. Rodney Garner could do wonders with this kid considering he doesn’t put up with excuses.

I’m not in the know here. I’m not saying he’s going to be the next Trey smith, or the next 5 star bust.
But maybe he played sick? Maybe being the top or close to the top recruit in the country comes with a much bigger weight now with NIL. There just may be factors that are in play. Easy to say he’s a lazy sack when he’s not comittied to us. Although some have said this long before.
I played highschool ball with two studs that went on to have very successful SEC and NFL careers. They were bored in highschool, and I watched them coast through lifts and practice and games. Someone will get in his ear and make him realize to get paid you gotta work. Hopefully he answers the call
Hope your right for his sake. In te broadcast last night they did mention that he has had to come out of most games.

Like I said earlier he is a super talent. How far he goes will depend on how hard he works. If he tries to coast in college he will never get to his full potential. There are no shortcuts to greatness. I just hope Walter realizes this wherever he goes. And folks wherever he goes should be glad but not to expect him to be major impact in his first year. He really needs to get into shape, he needs to take to coaching. GBO!

That’s not at all what I’m saying. I’m just pointing out that the negative commentary about Nolan started around the time he was almost certainly preparing to commit to TAMU. No kid is flawless, and he has a lot to work on. I’m just saying we wouldn’t hear nearly the same amount of negative comments about his “work ethic” if he was 100% Vol. You know that’s true.

It’s the “never wanted him anyway” stuff that always happen when we lose a commit.

Bolded sentence is incorrect. I've read that about him since late summer when plenty thought he was definitely coming here. Also, you'll have to show me serious "never wanted him anyway" comments. Evidently I missed them.

Don't the optics (purposeful use of a word some loathe) of signing Nolen outweigh the risk of having him lollygag through a season? 5 star players attract more better players, right?

Yes it is. Played with Billy on a travel team...talented guy! Good B-ball player as well. We’re getting old..
I got a great story about Billy. Probably need it in another thread, so it doesn't get moved.....

5* QB, definitely. Other positions, somewhat debatable...

Wanting to rub the noses in it of the people who were mocking me for my different opinion isn't the same as craving e-cred. More like e-vindication.

Oh yeah that makes total sense. You claim he is out of shape and there should be red flags because of that. Yeah man that’s really something to rub people nose in. I mean obviously he won’t be able to get in shape for college because of what he is doing in HS.

Would be nice to see Walter Nolen not pull a Paolo and get pulled every game because of cramps. Got taken out 3 times for cramps and threw up on the field at another point

Actually could be opposite. Guys like him will most times just run off when pressured to work hard. See Jay Hardy. That’s why he left Auburn and RG didn’t try to take him here last year
I think the results of that recruitment ended that version of Garner.

When you utilize “slurpers” for those who disagreed with you, you can’t really claim injury.

The slurpers weren't people who merely disagreed with me. The slurpers are the ones who mocked me for my differing opinion. They blindly slurped when it looked like it was going to be Tennessee, accepting no criticism of their football savior.
