Rodney Garner is the best DL coach in the country. Period.
Love RG but that distinction firmly belongs to Larry Johnson. The work he’s done over the past 20 years is incredible. There are a few guys on YouTube who breakdown the technique he teaches (side scissors/rip technique) and it’s fascinating. I’m still over the moon to have RG on our staff. Should take guys like Big O and make them stars.

Honestly both are the cream of the crop as DLine coaches. I wouldn’t say Larry Johnson is way ahead of Garner considering both have OUTSTANDING track records and both have had loads of DLinemen go to the NFL.

No doubt. Never said he was far and away better. Just giving the man his dues. Garner is a HELL of a DL coach and UT couldn’t have done any better with his hire.

But, you did say, the distinction firmly belongs to Johnson, and it doesn't. Johnson has an argument, no doubt; but, no one is firmly better than Garner, if at all.

Well, the “firmly” would denote his position at the top without specifying by how much… I digress. Glad to have Garner who is without a doubt one of the best in the biz!

Three out of the past five NFL Defensive Rookie of the Years are Larry Johnson defensive ends. It's crazy to think one school has 3/5 (actually 4/5😳) let alone all of them being the same position.

He's the best dline coach I'm the country by a country mile and perhaps the best to ever do it.

Doesn't mean other coaches, like RG, can't be the next Larry Johnson.

RG might be the better interior DL coach, but Johnson is definitely the best DE coach.
