Congrats to Luke. I hope he does well. It's a shame that he had to miss his senior year and not end up playing anywhere.

He would have been a first round pick last year I think.

Hold on. He didn't have to miss his senior season. That was a monetary driven decision made by Hochevar and Scott Boras. If people are going to attack guys like Jamal Lewis for "protecting" themselves for the NFL, be consistent and tell it like it is in this situation. The guy chose to chase the $$$ instead of coming back to UT, pure and simple.

The kid did choose to chase the money and Boras screwed him. Who said anything otherwise?

That said, I would respect a guy who admits he is going pro and sits out more then I would a guy who half asses it his senior year.

It wasn't Jamal's senior season. He was good enough to leave after his junior year and become the top 10 pick, Super Bowl Champion, 2,000 yard rusher he is.

I love how the haters on this board act as if Jamal was under some obligation to come back from a major knee injury to entertain them. How many backs have great seasons the first year they return from major knee surgery?

I love the fact that you of all people are calling me a hater. That may be the funniest thing ever posted on this board.

Jamal is under no obligation to me or any other fan to do anything. He proved that he got to make his own decisions and didn't owe anyone anything.

I don't blame Jamal, he had to get to the NFL to support that drug habit.

You mean like everyone's hero Webster Henry, who got suspended by the league for failing a drug test?

how does a thread about a base ball player getting drafted by the KC royals get turned in to a Jamal Lewis apathy/drug use thread again?

How many league drug tests has Jamal failed? Hold on a minute, I finally found something Arnold Drummond Henry does better than Jam. Fail drug tests.

Funny, Funny, Funny! Luke doesn't act thuggish in his behavior so you want to make him out to be like Jamal! Do you like anyone who doesn't have an arrest record or is not a fan favorite?

I don't remember Tee Martin or Andy Kelly having any off field problems.

No. just figured it was pretty cool that a TN baseball player was the no. 1 over all pick. could care less what team picked him up.

I have no problem with kids leaving early for Pro sports. Just as I have no problem with a kid with any other major and doesn't play sports leaving school if they can make a ton of cash and do what they have always dreamed of doing so that is not the point and I don't think that is greedy. What bothers most fans is that Jamal came back and didn't even give the appearance of trying. No, he doesn't owe anyone a thing. Character and heart is what wins fans over. You are among the minority of fans who seem to like players who have piss poor attitudes and could care less what the fans think. That is your right. Just like it's your right to dislike all the players who give their all for UT and become a fan favorite. Courage, heart and appreciation for a school and fan base that gave you the opportunity to showcase your talent on a major stage as a player is and will always be appreciated by the overwhelming majority of fans of any school. That hate is a fact that even you can't (but I'm sure will) argue with.

All peripheral silliness aside, it is a nice honor for Luke.

I know jake. You would think that a UT fan would be happy, dare I say proud that a ball player was drafted first over all. But hey, who are we kidding?

You, nor any of the other folks who bash Jamal, have given any example of a runner who came back full speed from a major knee injury in less than one year. If people would simply say they don't like Jam, that would be fair. However, you invent a perceived lack of effort to rip the guy. Further, if Jam wasn't giving effort, why didn't the sainted head coach remove him from the team? If he had such a bad attitude, shouldn't the coach handle that swiftly?

True, but I think I would rather have on my record that I failed a drug test, then that I spent time in the big house.

I guess he was just holding all those drugs for a friend. Nah, actually he pleaded guilty for being involved in a Federal drug case not a league test.

Well i think Hat was merely pointing out that sometimes it seems the standards we have for some players don't alwasy seem to be the same for others. To that end, i would have to agree with him.

it's no secret that a lot of people, including myslef i might add, think that Jamal played it safe his jr. year to take care of his knee for the draft in April.

then a kid comes a long in baseball, and not only does he play it safe, he just choses not to play.

So his point was simply what's good for the goose is good for the gander, and to that, i'll agree with him.

but personally, my feelings about what Jamal did or did not do in his jr year at TN has no bearing on the fact that i hope he does well in his pro career, just as i hope the same for Luke.
