TN In or Out? How fair will it be?

I think coach Martin is going to do great things here but going to the NIT is never a successful season.

Never is a long time. This year, the NIT is a successful season. Don't you think Indiana would've considered it a success had they made the NIT in the first couple years under Crean? It's never a successful plateau to reach as a program, but it can be a successful season.

And here is where I remind you we were picked 11th in the SEC. That means we weren't even expected to be on the NIT bubble, much less the NCAA.

Guys,

What would this team have done with Hopson and Harris? Keep that in mind.

I know UK has to replace their roster every year and they're a 1 seed every year. We aren't UK in that regard. If we had Harris, Stokes, and Maymon this would've been a 23-25 win team easily. Add Hopson to the mix and who knows.

Martin has us going in the right direction.

In the case of 2012, it is. Especially since Tennessee was picked to be sitting at home during both post season tournaments. Now after this season, NIT will be a failure.

A) 2nd in SEC w/ a shot at NCAA tournament

B) 2nd in SEC w/ a shoe in for NIT tournament

C)11th in SEC w/ watching postseason games on the couch.

We all are hoping for A, but B is not failure considering the predictions for this team. Heck, I just want to see this team play more games.

Harris has much more of an outside presence than Stokes. Not choosing one over the other. Regardless, that's another serious producer to add to the mix. But, as was said earlier, Stokes probably doesn't come if Harris is here.

No one called "highly successful" but based on this entire season, no one should be referring to it as a full blown failure either.

Compared to how we were in december and January (looking at no post season period; just hoping to hit above .500; looking like the team had already played its way out of the tournament and seemingly destined to finish no better than that predicted 11th in the conference) and where we ended - on the cusp of entering the tournament, finishing 2nd overall in the conference - it does still very much warrant /merit some serious applause, on the whole

UTEP had 50% more wins than AP. Plus beat some decent teams.

Go look at rpi, they were both very bad losses.

That's how the committee will see it. +150 RPI home losses.

ALSO...I has this discussion before, UT was around a 180 rpi at that point iirc and lost to a 210(ish) rpi ap, that's a 30 spot rpi difference in teams.

Memphis was around 20 rpi, and lost to around a 180 utep team.

You're taking the Tennessee name and saying oh its a horrible loss, well for how the team was playing it wasn't nearly as horrible of a loss as Memphis vs utep was.

Its idiotic to think anyone outside a hard core Tennessee basketball fan thinks winning the NIT is better than one and done in the dance...and those are the fans that oughta know the difference

I think we're out and it's fair. UT had a chance to get in by beating Ole Miss. They didn't do it. Yes they played better down the stretch, but the early losses will be too much to overcome IMO.

UT is out. Honestly, they don't deserve to be in the NCAA tourney. They have improved over the course of the season, but losses to Charleston, Oakland and Austin Peay are super ugly. Also, if the Vols can't beat Ole Miss when they know a tourney bid is on the line, then they belong in the NIT.

Out. And it's fair. Now I agree thing need to change with teams getting in with a losing conference record

Do you think a Xavier loss will change Siegel's bracket (as far as UT being in)?

Yes. He referenced it.

Our NCAA tourney bid ended when we had no answer to the zone, stood around on offense against Ole Miss, physical game allowed by officating, a missed call that could have be reviewed, lost the sense of urgency and add to it St Bonaventure winning today...If we make it it would be a miracle and unfair to someone else. With all that said, at midseason we all expected to be watching the NCAA tournament or NIT anyway so making the NIT is what they earned.

Prospects or recruits will not look at the Tennessee any differently than if we had gone to the NCAA versus the NIT. It is hogwash to think that. CCM will get the players he needs to be here and this years exceeding of expections and the turnaround with Stokes will draw more attention to recruits.
