'24 TN LB Edwin Spillman (Tennessee)

6’2 215ish, kid may be hard to keep off the field by the ‘backers one class above him.
BJM has done a really nice job of finding ways to rotate options and use all of the LBs effectively so far imo. Wouldn’t be shocked to see Edwin get a couple snaps per game in a pass rushing role similar to Elijah Herring as a freshman. Except there’s way more depth now than then so we’ll see. Very excited for the future of LB

He most certainly will see the field.
We play 5 ILbs .
Need Burns to be ready to.

Spillman was a pivotal recruit. He was an edge rusher that learned to play ILB. that's extremely difficult and he did it.

The way he shoots the gap in his highlights you would swear this kid has been a mike backer his whole life. He reads and reacts similar to Aaron Beasley.

I was gonna say Jerrod Mayo
That would be preferable. Beasley was a see-ballcarrier/hit-ballcarrier type of LB, but was sometimes a liability in coverage. Mayo was complete.

As much as people complained about our DBs being a problem in pass defense, our LBs often were too. They need to improve in that regard. I’m hoping/thinking Pili and Carter will be an improvement over Herring and Beasley in pass coverage. And that Herring and Telander improve in that area as backups.

but in their last update I am sure they will drop his ranking again. from a top 100 guy to outside 247 (not the composite) top 300. and the whole time they did nothing but talk good about him and his play.
I’m not sure where you’re getting top 100…he’s not even currently in their top 247:

I’ve thought all along that he’s severely underrated and I’ve never understood why he has dropped in the rankings throughout his HS career…maybe this performance will bump him up to the range he deserves…he’s a mid-range 4* (i.e. 93-94ish rating) IMHO

Poster was saying he WAS a top-100 guy and since has fallen completely out of their top-247, same as you.

Gonna be a lot of handwringing around here in August when it’s Herring starting next to Pili over Carter/Telander.

what CNC said. he HAD been a Top 100, was rated a 95, if you click the clock button next to his national ranking you can see what they had him, and how much they dropped him.

Word…my bad

Won’t happen, pal. Also Herring plays the same position as Pili so he will be 2nd string at best.
It’ll be Pili at MIKE and Carter at WILL. Telander and Herring are both MIKEs, but I think Herring could also play WILL in a pinch. Spillman could be the 2nd team WILL by midseason, though. Depends on how fast he picks things up and how Jalen Smith comes along.

Herring is a good run stopper but maybe needs to gain a step
