Illegal pitch. A right-handed pitcher in softball must keep her right foot on the ground as she moves towards the plate (left foot for lefties). Taylor was getting called for lifting it off the ground and replanting it.

I saw that but didn't know the exact rule. Clearly, when her foot came off the ground, she was misleading the batter.

Maybe 'deceiving' is the word I'm looking for instead of 'misleading'.

Thanks. I'm assuming it adds momentum to the pitch to "bunny-hop" it?? Please explain how it would mislead the hitter?

According to the broadcast, it is when both feet are airborne at the same time.

That's one way a pitch can be illegal, but not the only way. Michigan's pitcher was lifting and replanting her pivot foot. That's what the 3rd base ump kept calling.

As for the illegal pitch by Mich. a pitcher has to have one foot in touch at all times with the ground during the release of the ball, bunny hop or lunging is a no, no, unless you get caught, good job by the ump. Please don't pitch Cat, put Ivy back in the circle!

Sounds more like a travelling violation.
