we really have a good chance to bring this team back to the way it was in the 90s, kind of when my dad and peyton (manning) and all those guys were there, said lampley, whos the son of former tennessee offensive lineman brad lampley. ive also met a lot of those guys who were on those teams that won sec championships, and they were just telling me about how much unity they had. I feel like, if we have a lot of unity in this program, well really do well.
the younger lampley said he has been back to tennessees campus four or five times since his commitment to the vols. He most recently attended their spring-ending orange and white game on april 21, and he said he had a really good time there. tennessee also hosted him for one of its spring practices in march, and he said he likes what he has seen on the field from pruitt and the rest of the vols staff.
i really like their coaching style, said lampley, whos ranked the no. 220 overall prospect and no. 12 offensive guard in the 247sports composite for the 2019 class. "its really similar to what ive gotten at mba. Really, theyre obviously hard on the guys now, and theyre really doing that just to get them ready for what theyre going to face this fall. i think the culture of the program is obviously going to be a lot different this fall.
tennessee offensive line coach will friend and cornerbacks coach terry fair, who recruits the nashville area for the vols, are the main coaches who have stayed in frequent contact with lampley over the past few months. i really like coach friend, lampley said. i think our personalities really jell together. Ive really liked his coaching style so far, and i really like the way he teaches offensive-line play. Hes pretty intense. whats funny is, you get to meet him and he seems kind of laid-back. And then you watch practice, and hes pretty intense. But i really like that about him.
while lampley said hes not 100-percent sure when he might return to tennessee, he added that he will probably camp there this summer. he said hes looking forward to working with friend and experiencing what it will be like to play for the vols new staff. i feel like itll be a great opportunity just to kind of get to know (friend) better, with his coaching style, lampley said. i havent been to camp since my sophomore year, and i kind of want to go back.
lampley said he recently hasnt gotten much attention from other schools, and he believes thats because they know im pretty solid to tennessee. to say the least, it wont be easy for anyone to steal him away from the vols. itd be really tough, lampley said. my commitment's pretty solid. Itd be really hard to pull me away from knoxville.
