'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

This reminds me of Steve Sloan from Cleveland picking Bama over UT where he won NC. By the end of his Bama career UT was on the rise and beating Bama every year. One recruit does not make a program.
You’re right, one recruit definitely doesn’t make a program, but it sure would help bring in some other good players and also would be a great look to say that even with all of this crap surrounding the program we can still pull a guy away from Bama and Clemson. That we are still and will remain relevant.

Our fanbase is creating an unfair narrative around Ty’s decision.

“He knows the ramifications of not picking TN.”

“He knows it would crush our program if he announced his commitment elsewhere.”

And many, many more hyperbolic statements. Listen, I desperately want Ty to be a Vol, but why is it some 17 year old kid’s responsibility to pick us because he grew up a Vol fan? His ultimate goal is to win championships and get to the NFL, not please our fanbase. I can’t blame him if he thinks it’s more secure to go elsewhere.
I don't think anyone would blame him. The point being made was why not just do it on social media instead of the middle of the fanbase in the home state when you know how disappointed they are going to be especially if you are picking their biggest rival when that rival is winning championships while your team is trying to not sink. I would never want to do that to others personally. Apparently, people now do not care about others if they are wanting their moment.

So Ty having a commitment ceremony will hurt your feelings?

Is that why he can't have one?

You don’t invite Clay Travis and have an auditorium full of Vol fans just to announce you’re going to Bama.

Cmon people, you’re making this way harder than it should be.
Unless you invite Clay Travis so that he'll then talk more about you and you'll continue to gain a sense of notoriety regardless of what school you select.

That said, I hope you're right.

This is where I disagree a little bit - Simpson should pick where he wants to go. Obviously things like coaches, national perception, winning, all come into play. However, if someone would have told us four years ago that not only would we be in the midst of a new coaching staff, but also a brand new administration, none of us would've believed it. Furthermore, no one would've ever thought us to be facing NCAA penalty for the inept actions that lead to the leadership change to begin with.

If TS picks Clemson or Bama because he feels that they'll be the way they are forever, then it's short sighted. Bama has experienced coaching turnover in their ranks year over year, and how much longer will Saban actually coach. Dabo has been pretty good at keeping his staff together, but as successful as they've been that's becoming ever more difficult.

Conversely, Tennessee isn't going to be the same as we currently are either. With new leadership in place, TS could be a part of the group of players that actually brings UT back to both SEC and National relevance. The NFL will find its talent regardless of where a kid went to school. I hope this kid ends up in Orange mostly because of the optics around him being an in state 5 star QB, and the impact it would have in helping CJH's first recruiting class.

One additional thing that goes unmentioned, is the NIL changes that are going to take place during this recruiting class' collegiate career. TS is the perfect kid to benefit from local endorsements, advertisements, etc. and have a long list of opportunities to capitalize after his playing career is finished.
Would better prepare him for NFL to come to UT. He would have it too easy to go to Bama or Clemson. We all know the list of recent Bama QBs lack of succeeding at next level. Jury still out for Tua.

agree with everything except this. it's not ty's fault if 'other people' have issues with it? he's the one that's done the work to get where he is, so on some level, he's 'earned' that moment....i think the statement above is more about questioning motive, than the act itself. and i just don't think his motive is rub tn fans nose it, assuming he's picking one of the other two.

there will be some that will vilify TS if he picks another team, and that's really just not fair....but also unavoidable. when in reality Ty not picking TN has nothing to with him, but everything to do with TN, and where we are as a program....again, assuming we're not the pick.....

siap, there's no way he's not aware what picking Bama would do to some fans, knowing where his heart is, where he grew up, and just being in that venue, with that audience, making this decision.

but that shouldn't really make his decision for him....consideration? maybe, sure....

Would it help? I sure haven't seen all that many instances of a QB recruit "bringing in" other players.I've seen kids go to OTHER schools because of who is committed but rarely the other way around. I think that Simpson would open the floodgates to all these great recruits is a myth.

I understand this sentiment; however, it is not Ty Simpson's responsibility to ensure the feelings of the Tennessee fanbase aren't hurt. He is just a regular 17-year old kid, no matter what assumptions we make. He has worked his entire life to have this moment and make this decisions as one of the highest-rated recruits in the country. Just because he lives in Big Orange Country shouldn't mean his decision is relegated to a mere social media post.

We as fans need to do better and not take everything as a personal affront. Ty has made it pretty clear that if we ever gave him a reason to be a Vol he'd be a Vol. It's not his fault we continuously fail to do so and have a program in a state of dysfunction at the moment. He wants to win big.

It maybe a myth or it might not be. I’d personally like to see if it’s a myth or not.

This isn’t a new development though. Chad Withrow has been planning to be there on behalf of Outkick for a couple weeks now. I don’t think it has anything to do with who he picks
