'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

The rankings do have some correlation to on-field performance, but the waters are a little muddier right now.

The best teams are typically the ones with the best recruiting classes. You also have a few teams up in the rankings that are good because they have staffs that are really good at evaluating prospects and developing them. Those programs are probably going to see a boost from COVID just because there has been more "hidden" talent out there due to a lack of camps and you're basically going to see two recruiting cycles (2021 and 2022 classes) where a lot of big time players get overlooked by some of the elite programs.

That's not to say that Alabama and UGA don't have great evaluations, but they can mostly fill up on the known elite prospects and not take the guy they think could be really good but just doesn't have the offers and publicity.

Getting the guys with the higher ratings that have had better instructional training, played for bigger and better programs, and started shaving in the 5th grade is a good plan. The chance of success is greater, but not guaranteed. Too many guys introduced on Sundays with names you don't know from places not on major college maps tell you that stars are good for establishing probability of success, but CAN NOT be used to establish floors and ceilings for players. It is not like coaches are throwing darts at a huge board to offer them. Sign a bunch of under valued three stars and life can get better. The higher percentage of no-brainers the better.

247 and Rivals gave a recruit that did not exist a 3* ranking. Next discussion.
Rivals...not 247.

Everyone knows Rivals is an embarrassment. Dogged Trey Smith...and Mike Farrell singlehandedly pushed Harrison quitter Bailey to 5*. Lol.

They hit legendary status when a few years ago they put out an article talking about how many "paper 4*s" we had recruited one season...the hilarity is they were the only service having those guys as 4*s...woof!

If there was real smoke here, Alabama would know before VQ (coaches gossip more than any profession in the world). You’d see Alabama contacting other QBs. I don’t see it.
Not necessarily. AL would just get a QB in the portal. Not that that means anything is happening.

The amount of behind-the-scenes conversation between coaches is a well-hidden secret. Imagine finding out the Kirby Smart and CJH were talking to each other, innocently, for e.g. the week of the last game - people would got batshit and nothing but invalid assumptions would follow.

There have been a ton of bad 1% anomalies
Lol well there will always be those but, Atleast they made it. Not many people in this world can say they have made a 53 man NFL roster.

I’ve seen good players and one I know personally who was getting PT at Center during the pre-season for the Packers who looked like he was going to make the 53 man and broke his femur in pre-season and was released from the team and never went back to the NFL.

So yes making a 53 man is a big deal.

Agree to disagree then
