'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

The rankings do have some correlation to on-field performance, but the waters are a little muddier right now.

The best teams are typically the ones with the best recruiting classes. You also have a few teams up in the rankings that are good because they have staffs that are really good at evaluating prospects and developing them. Those programs are probably going to see a boost from COVID just because there has been more "hidden" talent out there due to a lack of camps and you're basically going to see two recruiting cycles (2021 and 2022 classes) where a lot of big time players get overlooked by some of the elite programs.

That's not to say that Alabama and UGA don't have great evaluations, but they can mostly fill up on the known elite prospects and not take the guy they think could be really good but just doesn't have the offers and publicity.

ehhhh.........I'd say 3 out of 20.
Thompson-Robinson and Daniels are so-so

I don’t think anyone other than you expects the 20th best QB in the nation to have a high success rate. Why are you doing top 20? Seems the top five had an amazing success rate including 2 first round picks

So that means the rankings are not accurate at all?

I wouldn't say that at all. To me, it means that they are lazy/don't have the resources to scout all players and they just throw something random on many of them. It admittedly has to be pretty difficult to rank all positions into 1-300 so the numbers have to be a bit arbitrary. They're also out to make $ and sell subs so I keep that in mind as well. Coaches pay attention to these rankings also whether they admit it or not.

They were al four stars or better (top 20)...........

Pickett was an .8500 3 star. #33 Pro style
Original response of mine was that rankings don't always mean everything. They nailed #1 and #2................For the most part, it's a crap shoot.

There a a few NFL starting quarterbacks that played for very low ranked college teams. We’ve had a couple of good quarterbacks here that were very good here that didn’t cut it in the NFL,Shular and Martin to be exact. It just seems that there are a lot of misses by recruiting services especially at the quarterback position.

But is that because the players are that much better or are the ratings higher because the better teams are going after them? Which cam first the chicken or the egg?

It’s likely both. But it’s more that those players are that much better. I mean if it just happened every few years it would be one thing. But every single year the best teams are the ones that have the best players.

Alabama has had the largest PAYROLL for players since Saban 2nd year. Ga has had the 2nd highest payroll for many years.

So, Jacob Eason transferred from UGA to UW where, as a 2/3*, he was their starting QB? And now, he is on the Seattle Seahawks roster? Me thinks your 2/3* assessment was a stretch.
What became of the quarterback that took Eason’s spot at Georgia?I don’t recall his name.

I see you seem to spout the same nonsense in multiple threads about money. If it was all about money, why couldn’t either Bama or UGA get Trevor Lawrence or Clowney? Or Nkemdiche or Gary? What about Roland Powell? Or Dorial Green Beckham? Why couldn’t they get Korey Foreman

Clemson pays well as do most WINNING programs

They are that much better. Hence the results of finishing in the top 5 every year.
Rankings are for fans. Based on potential.
All 5 stars aren’t equal.
Some have a far greater probability of living up to the ranking.
Saban knows the difference, does his own evals goes hard after the high probability ones and gets his share.

I just watch his first 5 game highlights and the way he scrambles away for his life cracks me up. Like a terrified kid until he gets north south then he has legit wiggle. I'm not going to enjoy watching that after Bryce Young is gone.

So you just naturally assume Simpson is gonna win the starting job after Young?
