'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

Who is the newer QB prospect putting up gaudy numbers in Alabama? Maybe they go that route if they miss out on Simpson?
IF Simpson doesn’t pick UT like expected, still awhile before he decides, UT has a good ace in their pocket as long as they recruit him to let him feel wanted.

Sam Horn is a legacy, both parents went to UT and he loves the Vols. 247 has him as the #2 Pro passer, #47 overall in the 2022 class. Nice size and can really spin it...

Just gotta show him the love and I think he would pick UT. Is UT taking one or two QB in the next class?

I actually prefer Horn to Simpson.

seems like the coaches want to go towards more of a dual threat. Do you know if Horn is a decent runner or pure pocket passer?

Interesting. Why? Offer list definitely is in Simpson's favor.
I dont know I haven't seen any film from either this year i just know when I watched both of their sophomore films I like Horn better.

To me he seemed to have a better touch on the ball, and he is a pass first (always looking down field) QB that can move up or out of the pocket and once he has done that if nothing is there he will take off.

Ty seems to me a run first pass second QB and not near as polished as a thrower.

All that could change based off this years highlights. But as sophomores I liked horn better. They are both highly rated by 24/7. I think if Ty is the pick of the coaches and if we miss on him get Horn. I will be happy with either.

Clemson is pushing hard for TY. Tells me all I need to know about how they think he can be elite.

Agreed. I think both Horn and Simpson are very good prospects and we cant lose on either. I wonder if it comes down to which one pulls the trigger first?

We are going to play this in typical UT fashion by missing on Simpson and then pissing Horn off by slow playing him.

Yep. Seen this too many times before. We'll pour all our eggs into the Simpson basket. We'll continuously here that we're "in a good spot here" and then he'll commit to Clemson late in the process and Horn will have moved on from us.

Horn appears to have a stronger arm. He can throw on the run, and is athletic enough as a runner (think Trevor Lawrence type runner). He isn't Kyler Murray, but he isn't Peyton Manning either. Can move in the pocket and find his open man. Extremely accurate. Appears to have a higher upside since this is only his third year playing football. Horn plays infinitely better competition, as well. He also plays with better surrounding talent, I'd venture to guess, so that is worth noting. Just watching their respective game tape, Horn just looks more complete to me and is nowhere near his ceiling, while I think Simpson may be near his.

Admittedly, the offer lists should tell you to believe otherwise, but I think that may be partially reflective of the fact that Simpson has been on the scene and around the game much longer and that his dad is a D1 head coach who knows how to get him exposure and prepare him him for the recruiting game.

I'm admittedly not a QB scout by trade, but it won't surprise me if we are talking about Simpson being a bust 3-4 years from now. Coaches know more than me, so I'll roll with their opinion, but I can't help but at least mildly question the opinion of a staff who trots Jarrett Guarantano out there with such confidence.

This^^^^

It will be high irony when a "defensive" coach like JP is fired for his blind allegiance to a sub-par QB/poor QB evaluations. I agree with your preference of Horn over Simpson too, although either one is a huge step-up from any QB on the current roster save HB.
