'22 TN QB Ty Simpson (Alabama commit)

I’ve played against Martin-West View and the rest of their schedule. I’m not usually impressed by QB play. Kid is good but is he really SEC good?

My QB in HS was better than what I’ve seen from Ty Simpson and he ended up setting records at UT Martin. He didn’t get looked at by SEC schools....

I feel like he is overrated but maybe he just doesn’t have talent around him to make him look how he should?

I think he has all the tools and that confident factor. Whoever they go all in on (and I think it’s Simpson), then they need to stay all in til they’re not. If they suddenly feel higher on Horn? Same thing. Mess around and try to land both and you’ll lose both.

This is true.

"Simpson will be hoping to see a Vol offense that shows more signs of life than it did last weekend."

I think he's going to be disappointed when we trot JG back out there tomorrow and we get the same results as last week.
If Simpson is turned off that were playing best option we have, that all coaches are on same page about...lets roll to 23. Roll will Salter.

Sick of these pre madonnas.

Nice escape, but he threw the ball into double coverage and got away with it. That will never work in the SEC.

It’s just that the odds of getting away with mistakes shrinks exponentially as you go up. Can’t take an exception and make it the rule.
Unless the “exception” is EVERYBODY? Players do what they can get away with in high school...then college ...then? Do it til they stop you is a thing.

When I was younger, I was volunteer assistant/coordinator for a couple of schools in the Memphis area and I have several friends that coach in West TN. I've got to see some tape of Simpson this year. Just some thoughts:

His line play is atrocious. Very, very poorly coached OL. Shocking since this was Chad Clifton's old HS.

He's got some decent skill players around him. Maybe not the most sure handed at times but they appear to be more athletic than the competiton most weeks.

Don't think they are running the best scheme for his skill set and the caliber of skill players around him.

Personally, given his age and what I've seen at Westview, maybe reclassifying and redshirting next year might be the best thing for him (or going to an IMG type school). If he came back next year, he might not play against a kid that plays high level D-1 ball. In a good week, he would be playing against players that were as athletic as I was in HS (which means, not very athletic - I played for a good 3A team). I'm not sure that helps a Top 100 national player get better.

We don't need this cat. Let him go too Michigan
Man. We have to recruit all the talent we can.
Simpson plays horrible comp, but his tools are Elite.

If Maurer or Bailey develop, then Salter can redshirt and battle Ty in 2023.
Salter and Simpson are both great athletes and not just passers. Both can help us win games.

My friends son calls both HS and UTM games and last night he was doing Westview. He texted me this so I suppose this was his stats before the game last night.

1470 yards
17 passing tds
5 interceptions

Seems like Clemson always tries to pressure kids into commiting "right now." Funny that they then cant take any more visits, as if they're supposed to have made a sound decision. Those two tactics dont go together to me.
Yea, I don’t think Dabo can really do that with a kid who’s father is a D1 Coach. He wrongs or mistreats Ty I think Daddy could report some infractions to the NCAA lol.
