TN Ranked #26 in recruiting

I understand where we're at right now with recruiting, but top 15 classes won't cut it in the Sec. I'm ok with it this year, but we'll have to do much better after that if we want to win championships.

Totally understand your point. But, we all have to remember that the staff got a very late start on recruiting for '11. They are really making some progress now and are making some major moves toward a fantastic class in '12. Just read the board here and you can see their is a LOT of optimism for the future...

If you plan on being an SEC and national title contender, they do matter. There aren't any Boise State stories in this conference.

hahaha, what? See Arkansas. Consistently the 7th or 8th best recruiting class in the SEC each year. Obviously stars matter, but don't pretend that they are the be all end all and that lesser talented teams don't stand a chance against the teams that are full of 4 and 5 star players... Hell, watching Florida play should make you aware of that.

This class will contribute more when all is said and done than many of our more highly rated classes in the past. We aren't getting back to the top overnight though. This is probably going to be a three year process before UT can contend for the SEC title again. I just pray idiots like Richt and Miles stay at UGA and LSU because I think with equal talent Dooley can beat them. Heck I think with equal talent Dooley beats UF this past Sat. Bama however ughh.

For my part I would love to see a UT signing class that is #1 on everybody's board that is loaded with 5 and 4* but I would rather see a class full of solid 3* and sprinkling of 4* and maybe 5* that gel well and can stay in the system and compete, I mean at the very least we would have bodies LEFT to put on the field.

THIS!!!! a million times this!!!!!!

the reason they (arkansas) is doing this good is because they have a solid QB.
i understand that UT's recruiting this year is focused on filling needs and getting people that the coaches want.
but i think you really need a QB evry year

Haters gonna hate.

Given the circumstances 26th isn't terrible, but more importantly, this class should finish out well. Even more importantly than that, I'd be willing to bet we will see less attrition in the 2011 class than we have since 2004 or earlier.

Why is Bama so good so soon? Could it be because Saban hauls in the number 1 recruiting class two years in row? Could it be that he whips the team into shape?

Saban kicks the door open because he is a phenomenal coach and a phenomenal recruiter. You need both. So far Dooley ain't no Saban as a recruiter...

The difference is that Saban already had a big name factor when he came to bama. It is a easier to recruit when you have already had great sucess. So I don't think its fair to compare CDD's first year to Saban's. I come friendly not bashing. just giving my humble but accurate opinion. :)

A better comparison would be Saban's start at LSU...

He took the job in November of 1999.

LSU Recruiting Class Rankings under Saban
(2002-2004 from Rivals, 2000 & 2001 from Rivals via TigerDroppings)

2000 - 27th
2001 - 4th
2002 - 15th
2003 - 1st
2004 - 2nd

He left in December of 2004.

It took Saban time to establish himself too. If we aren't in the top 10 by 2012 or 2013, then we can be worried.

Let's not overlook the fact LSU has the in-state talent as well. Phenomenal talent comes out of that state every year. It is loaded this year. They are also very close to Texas. They recruit well in Texas.

UT has to make much stronger efforts than Saban ever did while at LSU recruiting wise.

Young's commitment will result in about 60 more points once it's counted which will put us at 23rd on Rivals team rankings

Off just a little...we're 24th now...Young added about 40 points to our total and we're now 5 points behind OSU

No doubt we will. We have 16 commits. Of the 23 teams ahead of us, 4 also have 16 and 3 have less. That means 16 of the 23 teams ahead of us have more than 16 commits, 4 teams have 20+. Once we have our class filled I have no doubts we'll be top 15.

Were going to finish top 15! Were going to land a few more 4* & IMO 1-2 of our current commits will be bumped up.

This is the most applicable thread I could find on this subject after doing a search....at least I didn't start a new thread on a topic I know has come up several times already right? :)

After Coleman's bump we're back in the top 25 at #24...I'd be shocked if Randolph doesn't get bumped after seeing Coleman get bumped...and I think there's a real chance of Smith getting it as well...

Throw in the possible commits this week of Arnett and Couch and you've got 7 4*'s and easily a top 15 class for the time being

For those of us (like myself) who care about this sort of thing and also fall on the pro-Dooley side I think it's safe to say this week could be very satisfying for us

Did Coleman get a random bump or did the Rivals 250 come out?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

The 250 is not out yet...I think it's bing updated as we speak...

I just can't fathom Coleman getting the bump and Randolph not getting it...

No knock on Coleman but alot of people I'm reading are calling Randolph the best DB in Georgia this year

What about Smith?

IMO...Coleman, Kerbyson, Smith and Randolph (possibly Dallas) all deserve the 4th star...but I really didn't think anyone had a chance at it this update except Randolph

Safe to say Coleman was a pleasant surprise but Randolph not getting it would be an unpleasant surprise

This post makes me all tingley inside....throw all this in a blender with a win against Ole Miss and mix it up and I will gladly drink it!:dance2:
