One of the Vols’ top in-state targets, four-star running back Eric Gray of Memphis, Tenn., has continued to see plenty of Tennessee over the past few months, and he again returned to Knoxville over the weekend on an unofficial visit rather than using his fifth and final official visit to check out another school. It was his third trip to Tennessee in less than a month and his fifth visit with the Vols since September, and it was yet another indication that Tennessee remains the team to beat for Gray as he prepares to announce his final decision on Thursday, the second day of the early signing period.
The Vols have been viewed as the favorites to land the former Michigan commitment since even before he parted ways with the Wolverines on Dec. 1, and sources close to his recruitment said nothing has changed down the stretch. South Carolina, which hosted him on an official visit the weekend of Dec. 7, is the only school he has visited other than Tennessee since his unofficial visit to Ole Miss on Sept. 15 for the Rebels’ home game against Alabama. Texas A&M, Ole Miss and Alabama are among the other schools that recently have been in contact with him. But coming off his visit to Tennessee over the weekend, it would be a surprise if he picked anyone other than the Vols.
I definitely think you can send them stuff, make stuff with their names/likeness. but not once they get on campus. one of those extree dumb NCAA rules.Preciate that clarification batm... err Bruce. Could have sworn I saw UGA doin it but it was probably an edit.
He is correct. This falls under “personalized recruiting aid” section. No personalized scoreboard presentations, decorations, jerseys, recruiting material...Unless something has changed recently, it's not allowed for the school to put the recruits name on anything. Not Jerseys, cakes, locker room plates, etc.
Barring a change of plans, Tennessee will have to wait until Thursday for one of its top remaining targets to announce his decision. Four-star running back Eric Gray of Memphis, Tenn., a former Michigan commitment, is scheduled to announce his decision at noon Central time Thursday during a ceremony at his school, and all signs still point to Tennessee being the team to beat for him following his unofficial visit to Knoxville over the weekend. It was his fifth visit with the Vols since Sept. 22 and his third trip there in less than a month.
The 5-foot-10, 193-pound Gray plans to sign Thursday and enroll at the school of his choice in January. South Carolina, which hosted him on an official visit the weekend of Dec. 7, is the only other school he has visited over the past three months, and his handful of trips to Knoxville this fall have made Tennessee the heavy favorite on the 247Sports Crystal Ball since he decommitted from Michigan on Dec. 1. Official word of Gray’s decision isn’t expected on Wednesday, but the Vols have made him a priority over the past few months and remain in the driver’s seat going into his announcement.
