Not sure if Chaney has ever incorporated a fullback into his offense but Hodge would def fit the mold of a short yardage/h back/lead blocker... But i've never seen the kid play sooooo who knows... There are a lot of ways to use a big back like Hodge tho...
I think Auburn did a fair bit of that with Carl Stewart, too, speaking of big backs out of Maryville.I believe T. Hodge will be productive playing Pope's current position out of 21 personnel as a blocking back/miss direction, routes out of the backfield guy... Some schools call it FB, some call it TE, some call it H.....
Kid runs just like TJ Yeldon.
Not a bruiser, but definitely runs with power and great vision.
Very decisive but can dance in the hole if needed.
Nice piece to the puzzle.
“I really enjoyed my time this weekend. I’m local, but I really feel at home there now,” Hodge said. “We just hung out a lot – as commits and with the players on the team now – and spent a lot of time on campus to get a feel for what being a student-athlete would be like. “The Tennessee / Memphis game was really fun. What an atmosphere.” The two other recruits flanking the six commits this weekend was five-star tight end Darnell Washington and four-star defensive end Tyler Barron. “We didn’t do too much recruiting this weekend,” Hodge said. “I mean, most of us were already commits so it was just a good time to get to know them better and begin building relationships. We actually had a guy commit this weekend.”
Tennessee’s most recent commit is four-star safety Doneiko Slaughter of Roswell, Ga., but Hodge made a point to bring up Jabari Small during his chat with Volquest as the three-star running back announced his commitment to the Vols last week. “We met at a game last year and would hit each other up every now and then. But we spoke right before he committed,” Hodge said of his soon-to-be teammate. “We talk often now and are starting to build that relationship. He’s very talented and I look forward to working with him. “It’s really good we got another running back commit.” “They want a guy who can get down field and break some tackles and that’s what they see in me,” Hodge said of the Tennessee coaching staff. “I’m more of a one-cut and then get north type of back. I’m going to do the best I can in that – it’s what I do.”
The Tennessee commit believes he still hasn’t played his best football. “I look back on my four years and wouldn’t change a thing – injuries and all. But I never had a chance to play at my full potential,” Hodge said. “I’ve never had a game to where I could go back and say that’s my best game. I still wouldn’t change a thing though. “I haven’t played my best yet and I’m ready for what God has in store for me.” The rising UT freshman said he’s gotten to know current Tennessee running backs Ty Chandler and Eric Gray during his recruitment and that he likes their styles on the field. “It was a good weekend to hang out with them and get information on how to transition from high school into the SEC,” Hodge said. “They are some good mentors to look up to.”
-VQHodge will put pen to paper Wednesday morning on the first day of the early signing period. Fans can expect it to become official a little after 10 a.m. E.T. “Words can’t even describe how blessed I am. Tennessee was the first school to offer me and now I’m about to play there,” Hodge said. “They treat you like family. ‘I really can’t wait to run through that ‘T’ and play for something bigger than myself.”
I'd say he runs in the 4.5's at least. This kid is an absolute steal.
