But jf he's "perfect for their system" but they didn't recruit him, then he probably wasn't actually a perfect fit or wasn't good enough to be recruited, despite being local. Heupel and co. know better than anyone else what is and isn't perfect for their system I would think.Im sure every staff makes a mistake every now and then. Or else coaches wouldnt get fired.?
Heupel and crew have been pretty good at evaluating. They just miss a lot on kids they do want.
This is a kid they missed on, period. Not because he committed to Michigan, but because he fits exactly what they need their TEs to do, but didnt even recruit him.
I said it earlier in this thread I think, but Owens strikes me as Princeton Fant 2.0. We made Fant a real weapon. I'm just bummed for the kid because I think he really wanted to play at Tennessee all things being equal.Theyŕe both TEs but different players.
Owens fits exactly what we do offensively. Heś a good blocker out of the Hback and a very good receiver. Yeah heś only 6,2 standing straight but we have a 6,6 kid in Okoye that cant even catch a football at TE.
hes local, grew up a Vol fan.
and dont say hes not good enough, as he just recently committed to the National Champions.
it is what it is,
The way both play doesn't make that a concern. You arent drawing up plays for either guy to utilize their size. They are both undersized guys who could play TE, H-Back, or FB in certain situations. You aren't throwing back corner fades to either guy, so the 2 inches isn't a big deal.Except Princeton was a legit 6’2
Tennessee threw a back shoulder fade to Fant to draw a game saving PI call against Alabama. The way both play doesn't make that a concern. Oh I'm certainly not saying he's right. You’ve been around long enough to know that guy doesn’t know jack right?
In most cases, I wish we'd judge each post based on its own merit rather than simply dismiss it because of who posted it. Trolls being the exception. You’ve been around long enough to know that guy doesn’t know jack right?
Well, we are a year or two away from starting to formulate that answer.Remains to be seen.
It wasn't a miss as in we took a swing and missed. Little thinks its a miss as in we missed signing a TE who is a "perfit fit" for this system.
Since we never even had him over for an official visit, I’d say he wasn’t a miss at all.
You said it. We don’t know until they get to college and perform. Yet some want to declare they know more than the coaches.Oh I'm certainly not saying he's right.
I'm just saying we don't know if it's a miss or not until the guy gets to college to see how he performs.
And even then we have a higher rated TE commit to us.
I'd rather have VanDorselaer, and obviously the staff would to, but that doesn't mean they are right (although I certainly think they are).
If it’s something he isn’t totally off about, then he’s regurgitating itIn most cases, I wish we'd judge each post based on its own merit rather than simply dismiss it because of who posted it. Trolls being the exception.
I have been around this site for 15 years and disagree with a lot of what LV posts, but I don't just wholly dismiss everything he says simply because I've disagreed in the past. That's a pretty closed-mind perspective to have.
