'25 TN TE Eli Owens (Michigan commit)

This. Seems like they’re going after longer tight ends with the guys they’re in on
That does seem to be the preference based on we actually are pursuing, but this kid does seem to profile a lot (style and size) like the most successful TE that Heupel has had since he arrived at Tennessee. This kid seems like a Princeton Fant clone.

I don’t understand the height concern either given that our “TE” is basically just a lead blocking FB.

Does seem like when he stopped growing they moved on.

But man, seems like you'd want a swiss army knife if you can get him. Especially after Princeton Fant.
Too bad it didn't work out with the UK TE, but it's hard to get 2 from the portal at the same spot especially when you consider how little we used ours this year.

I dont like that the staff didnt recruit him.
Heś perfect for what Tennessee does offensively with the TEs.
Great lead blocker, and can adjust to all different angles.

This staff hardly ever misses.

This one is a miss. Heś pretty good as an Edge too.

oh well...

We just got a commit from a TE ranked even higher than Owen's. Also I think we are in on Pritchet from North Carolina. Sometimes you have to pass on instate kids if you can get better players.

If he was worth pursuing in the staff's opinion, Im sure they would have. You can't really miss a kid that plays for Alcoa lol

Theyŕe both TEs but different players.

Owens fits exactly what we do offensively. Heś a good blocker out of the Hback and a very good receiver. Yeah heś only 6,2 standing straight but we have a 6,6 kid in Okoye that cant even catch a football at TE.

hes local, grew up a Vol fan.
and dont say hes not good enough, as he just recently committed to the National Champions.

it is what it is,

Im sure every staff makes a mistake every now and then. Or else coaches wouldnt get fired.?

Heupel and crew have been pretty good at evaluating. They just miss a lot on kids they do want.

This is a kid they missed on, period. Not because he committed to Michigan, but because he fits exactly what they need their TEs to do, but didnt even recruit him.

Didn’t because they didn’t want to.

You mean like every other staff in America??

Sure...
I mean unlike those that think they need every player from inside then state that another team wants, or those that worry about rankings , or, even worse, those that worry about what the fans want.
