This should get easier with each passing year due to two things: 1) UT's program has turned the corner, and we will have strong win-loss records on the field moving forward, and 2) Heupel and his coaching staff will have been in on recruiting kids from the beginning of the recruitment process rather than getting in on recruits late (due to being relatively new to the UT program).Jefferson is an important recruit. I don’t think he’s as talented as Mathews or Wingo at this point, but he would do big things in our offense. But the reason he is crucial is he’s an instate kid we want. We need to really be able to land any in state kids we really want with ease going forward.
You mean those Heistman winning, first round draft pick types they had a few years back that came in highly recruited and balled out? Yep. A few of those would be great. Folks might start calling us wide receiver U again even.I know we will be good at WR regardless but I want one like a couple of those Bama receivers of years past that if you don’t have a great angle, forget it, they gone!
They would eat in this offense!
Agree...still not as important as Mathews or Wingo, imo. Both are better, only reason I say that...I will always want the better player, no matter where they come from. I want to land Jefferson, too, no doubt; but, if we land the other two, I'll forget who he is, quick...especially if he goes to Bama; and, right now, I believe he does.Jefferson is an important recruit. I don’t think you take kids that you don’t want but we definitely want to win battles for kids in the state that we value…. The easiest way to becoming dominant is to get all the kids we want in state and sprinkling in the rest from within 4-5 hours from us…. Then expanding out from there for 1-5 elite recruits.I still don’t get the big deal about a recruit being in state. Just get the best players that want to play for you without worrying about an imaginary line.
Is he an in state kid or a boarder at Baylor who grew up in another state?Jefferson is an important recruit. I agree with the first statement…. Amari Jefferson is considered one of the best players…. He is also only 1.5 hours away from campus….the easiest way to become great is to be able to hand pick guys from Tennessee…. Much easier to recruit when you have the instate schools locked down as much as possible bc those kids are around the Big Orange so much…. I knew it was over for Butch when Mays and Higgins both chose other schools…. Those kids should have been close to automatic Vols.the easiest way to become dominant is to get the best players. This is a long state covering 500 miles and two time zones. "In state" recruiting in Tennessee is beyond silly.

Man, that one hurt. Probably the biggest instate miss in the last 25 years unless I am completely forgetting someone. Jalen Ramsey, maybe, but we were never in it for him and he wasn't 20 minutes away from campus. What hurts even worse is that Tee was committed to Tennessee for so long before bolting for Clemson. Not to defend Butch but Higgins picked Clemson after they had just won the NC.
Well, yeah, but it’s not the end of the world.I don’t think you take kids that you don’t want but we definitely want to win battles for kids in the state that we value….
