'24 TN WR Amari Jefferson (Tennessee)

Jefferson comes to town with this thing down to three but in our mind it’s really down to Alabama and Tennessee. The Tide have the edge heading into the weekend but the Vols have a strong shot to flip the momentum with a strong weekend. Jefferson, a two sport star, really still loves the idea of playing both baseball and football in college.

Never said it was…. Just important.
Yet no one knows why it’s important except that someone decided along time ago that the best way to recruit was to get the best players in state and add a few from other states. Recruits don’t necessarily value playing for the in state schools anymore. So in a case like this with a WR that can easily be replaced by other WRs with the same amount of talent, I don’t see any reason to get upset. Especially after we beat AL for the recruit they wanted from our state last year. But understand the media will blow it out of proportion.

Kids still value instate schools…. They haven’t valued us till now…. Heup is doing a great job with instate recruiting and no one should be upset if we miss on Amari…. The reason it’s important is bc you have an advantage instate…. Your recruiting base starts there…. Then is goes out five to six hours from your school…. Then you expand out and try hand picking a few kids outside of that area(Nico)(Max)… A big part of our decline was allowing Alabama, Georgia, Clemson, and Ohio state steal who they wanted from this state… Dooley didn’t even visit Vonn Bell( still pisses me off)

I agree with the first statement…. Amari Jefferson is considered one of the best players…. He is also only 1.5 hours away from campus….the easiest way to become great is to be able to hand pick guys from Tennessee…. Much easier to recruit when you have the instate schools locked down as much as possible bc those kids are around the Big Orange so much…. I knew it was over for Butch when Mays and Higgins both chose other schools…. Those kids should have been close to automatic Vols.

Wrong. The easiest way is to win games and create a cycle of greatness where you can handpick guys from the REGION, not the state.

Kids want different experiences in college, they want to see different places. Why is this so hard for folks on here to grasp?

Such outdated thinking.

Mays was committed under Butch. Decommitted when it became apparent Butch was gone.

Exactly. Crossing a state line to go to college just isn’t that big of a deal. Proximity does matter, at least to some (and to some parents). And UT is situated within proximate reach of a TON of talent.

This whole idea of instate talent being a huge deal is outdated. We live in a transient society now.

Nope. You are seeing five star guys from those states going to other schools. Hel, we have a few on campus this weekend...

And Georgia’s 2023 class was comprised mostly of out of state guys. Alabama has made its living off of out of state guys from Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, California, Texas, and everywhere else.

That’s true…. Sucks to lose both he and Higgins bc of his incompetence.

There was some money involved in Higgins’ and Rodgers’ recruitment as well. A Clemson booster took care of Higgins’ mama. It wasn’t all Butch. UT boosters weren’t as aggressive.

Doesn’t mean you only recruit instate…. Need to get the ones we really want instate and branch out.
