'24 TN WR Braylon Harmon (Tennessee)

False equivalencies don't move you forward. The issue is whether long snappers should be recruited scholarship players or not. There is no evidence to support the idea that you get a better long snapper by offering him a scholarship. In fact, the evidence (oddly) points to the opposite. Therefore, don't waste a scholarship on one.

Pointing out that UT misevaluated a scholarship LB is a red herring that doesn't address the actual issue. But since there will inevitably be misevaluations, that's all the more reason to use your scholarships wisely.

Asking what generational talent we missed out on by offering Albright is just bizarre. But sure, let's just give out scholarships like candy because, you know, they wouldn't have gone to a generational talent anyway.

And yes, there were scholarship restrictions under Pruitt...the 85 total/25 initial counters. You still had to fit into those parameters, even if the NCAA hadn't hit us with further reductions yet.
Long snappers can lose a ball game for you as or more quickly tha any other plays on the team except for the center and the QB. They deserve a scholarship as much as any other position. You probably don’t want to give scholarships to kickers either.

A PWO gets uniforms and food and a spot on the team. That leaves tuition ($25,000 instate) books fees housing clothes . it costs a lot of pocket change. If a team such as vandy offers a full ride then he's gone.

Nope. All for giving scholarships to kickers. Because you have to give a kicker a scholarship to get a good one. Giving a scholarship to a long snapper gives you no better chance of getting a good one. Walk on long snappers who are good at what they do are a dime a dozen. So just grab one of those and save yourself a scholarship. That’s what power 5 coaches do and have always done, other than during a brief moment of contagious stupidity a few years ago.

This really isn’t that hard.

Yep. So you get one they don’t offer. Which is probably all of them.

He goes to Knox Catholic. I’d bet good money he is getting a good academic scholarship plus HOPE. If anything is left over I bet it’s already less than what his parents are already paying to send him to Catholic.

Memphis is a better program than Vandy and he has an offer there but still committed to UT as a walk-on

If all he does is return kicks, this kid is worth a scholarship. Dee Williams is gone and Boo Carter shouldn't be risked on a full-time basis. That's assuming that he's highly regarded as a returner.
Or an NIL adder to make staying at UT cost neutral. Family does save a bunch of travel and motel dollars that also factors in the net net calculations.

Didn’t say that. But it’s a better football program and it’s not close.
Not going to argue "better football" program but 8 doubt Mr Harmon is planning a career in the NFL. A degree from UT beats a degree from Memphis but neither are better than Vanderbilt and it's not even close.

But what if the football player wants to develop and play football and play for a program that can win games? Vandy would be a distant 3rd when choosing between the 3 at that point.

He has offers from Memphis, Navy, Air Force, Penn. Seems like he just wants to play for UT.

I am just hoping when the fall roster is released, he is on it. Last year Bishop was my sort of a reach prospect I coveted. This year it is this guy. Last year Seldon was my offensive big time want, this year Lewis. Hope this is not the kiss of death on the quartet.

Heupel will make it work.

This kid wants to be a Vol

Braylon Harmon tracked Lipscomb Academy’s third-quarter kickoff, raring to return it. With the ball in hand, the senior wideout blazed through the gut of the opponent's special teams, evading ankle tackles and all for a 94-yard touchdown, his longest this season. While it was the lone touchdown in a 33-10 loss on Oct. 13, it was one of many awe-inspiring plays he unleashed during the 2023 season.

Harmon’s exploits as a return specialist reminded Catholic co-interim coach Steve Matthews of one of his former players: 2021 third-round NFL draft pick Amari Rodgers. “That part of the game, I'd compare him to,” Matthews said. “I would say, at the high school level, Braylon was a little bit ahead of Amari just because he's a little more physical at this time. I would put Braylon right up there in that category and that’s a heck of a compliment.”

...Harmon’s impact on the Irish was felt in the days leading up to game day. He demanded excitement in practice, which he said would result in his teammates’ best efforts. Harmon's vocal presence was as needed as his touchdowns scored. “It's a long season and some of these players, you know, after a while, they’ll kind of drown the coach out a little bit but hearing him step up like that … was a huge benefit,” Matthews said. “I'm always trying to keep people accountable,” Harmon said. “As a teammate, that's my job.”
