'20 TN WR Holden Willis (USF commit)

De1 we know your position, take the free money and that’s great if he does. If he takes PWO he’ll have my full support either way.
BTW CJP is running the show now.

Look i don't know where you cm from but he'd hv my support too as did my guy TJ Minnifee who cm and left because it wasn't what he exoected. So he went where the money was offered. Me and @JacketVol were discussing what PWOs don't get. So miss me with the you get my point

We can sit and say what we want. Good, bad or in the middle. It all comes down to what the coaches think. They are the ones who knows talent and it's their jobs on the line. If our coaches who see d1 talent day in and out want him they will offer him a full ride. Just remember Pruitt is still trying to fix a depleted roster. If he was my kid it would be a business decision all day long but he isn't. Also if I had the money to spare to support my kid with a walk on offer then sure why not.

I turned down some PWO, including my “dream school,” because I wanted the scholarship and an immediate chance to play golf as a frosh. Best decision for me, but if walking on at his “dream school” is best for him......go for it. If he’s a competitor, he’ll want the playing time.

The biggest complaint I have heard from parents with PWO children is the meal plan. One kid had a hope and was a 4.0 student. So, may not be as bad as getting nothing but they should change this. We’ve got the funds and plenty of folks give them funds.

If their biggest complaint is about the meal plan, then they don't actually have any complaints.

What does it matter where I cm from?? You’ve stated he isn’t P5 talent based on your observations and shouldn’t take the PWO. If he takes the PWO at UT or scolly somewhere else that’s for him and his family to decide. I personally, as a vol fan, would like to see him wear the power T. No hard feelings 😁

Who knows he may take the AP offer?

With all due respect, you have no clue. Kid did transfer and is playing and will get a masters degree from a very prestigious school up east. Also may many friends for a lifetime which include two of our captains tomorrow. It worked out fine but he would’ve had a full ride and nothing out of pocket if he had went somewhere else. Other SEC schools do NOT make PWO’s pay for a meal plan so yes, fix it.

You're completely missing the point, but continue on with your nonsense if it makes you feel better.

The problem here is not whether he should take the PWO offer or not. The problem is all this started with someone insisting he deserved one of the last open scholarship spots. Then tried to argue that he was comparable to players like Tee Higgins.
Why is that a problem?

Better than not playing in front of 95,000
And that’s any marginal player’s dilemma. Try your chances at the top level where you may never see the field or play at a lower level where you know you will get lots of opportunity. Tough decision and I hope all these recruits pick the best place for themselves.

I get it. You have a direct connection to this kid and think he is a scholarship SEC talent and he bleeds orange. In 3 or 4 years, you may be proven correct. But, right now, nobody of substance shares your opinion. He was offered a PWO spot. Which is an honor. But until you prove yourself and manage to work your way up the depth chart from not being listed as even 4th string, a PWO is a glorified practice dummy.

How do you know how the staff views him and what the staff told him. Not all scholarship kids are treated equally and not all walk ones are treated equally. They have to be treated fairly. There is no manual. Not all of either hold state records or are MR. tennessee winners. Not all coaches are liars either. I don’t think our coach got his rep by acting like a butt. In fact he seems to have impressed lots of prospects enough they publicly commented on him and the way all levels of players here trust our staff. So until proven otherwise I will trust him too.

What does what I said have to do with our coaches honesty. I've never once suggested that our coaches are dishonest. Have our coaches offered him a full scholarship? Apparently not. Have any SEC coaches, or power 5 coaches at all for that matter, offered a full scholarship? Apparently not. I'm not dogging the kid. I've watched his film and think he's a very good high school football player. The problem is once your high school career is over, those accolades don't mean ish at the next level. There are kids all over the country playing division 3 football that were all-state, hold records, get jerseys retired..... Not getting SEC offers doesn't mean you're not a talented football player. But being a really good high school player doesn't mean you warrant an SEC offer either.

Every new arrival may well be a practice dummy. Do you know he was not given a defined path to a scholly? I bet each PWO has a different pitch made to them based on staff evaluation. Even these kids and parents know coming out of class 1 without lots of camps makes it tough to evaluate and commit a scholly at THIS level. Even for your local favorite. Back to a kid’s risk/reward unique calculation. Regardless of anyone but THE coaches evaluation and commitment to the kid. If he and staff realize he does not project after some time then lower level opportunities will still be there.

Are you really that upset that I compared him to TH? Wow, you know nothing about me or if I’m directly connected to the kid. It’s already been said his biggest knock is he played 1A ball. I’ve seen both of them play, Tee was phenomenal as was Willis. He is 20+ lbs heavier and same height, and if you haven’t already, compare their numbers TH senior yr vs HW senior yr. Willis had better stats, and is just as fast and athletic, look it up. I’m not basing my opinion of him by grabbing it out of the air, again, compare everything about the two. Willis put up crazy numbers, did great in the camps he attended, even better than several highly rated WRs. I am by no means taking anything away from TH as he should be a 1st round DP, but I will not apologize for the comparison of both their SYs in high school. I’m cool if our staff only sees Willis as PWO, they’re held accountable for the program, if he takes it that’s great, if not that’s great as well, you’re looking at his offer list, of which he can’t control. He controlled what he did on the field and at camp, if what he did isn’t good enough for P5 then it is what it is.

There are kids that still get overlooked every year by all the p5 schools that go on to become NFL draft picks. Yes, Willis has done everything he can on his end and he can't help the level of competition he plays against. You stated that he was considered the 8th best receiver at the regional camp this summer. My point was TH was considered a top receiver at national camps. Same type setting, much grander scale. Much different results.

I told them this but in the eyes of many I'm against the kids because I'm speaking on business decisions. Why waste money when free money is available?

Like many of us have been saying, if taking a shot at a dream has enough value to him and his family, saving a few bucks might not be all that satisfying and not a no brainer. Anyone criticizing whatever they decide has an ego and self worth problem. Recovering from walking on is easier than trying to work your way back to knoxville. At risk is a lifetime of dealing with “what if” issues. He can have a guaranteed path to not having to sit a year if he wants to transfer down, risky if he takes the other route. They are the only ones that can answer the big question.

There is no business decision that justifies the outlay of time and money to sign on as a fan. But lots do. Those that make that decision based on return value are less fan and more sports consumer. Their creed is “I will give my all to (team) as long as they win As many and the way I want them to.” They get mad not sad and feel justified in trashing the elements of the program of the their choice. Their right they proclaim. Oh well. Every other human gets to judge their performance, and they get real defensive, often unite as a group, and often cyber-backslap each other. Oh well again.
