'22 TN WR Isaiah Horton (Miami Transfer)

Obviously

But, one would like to have the in-state talent in your back pocket if you want them.
UT hasn’t been relevant in these kids lifetime and a lot aren’t native Tennesseans anyway

That’s not the argument.

You don’t have to land every in-state player to be successful.

I get tired of hearing this.

Where did I say you need every kid?
I said you’d like to get the kids you want from TN.

Our instate recruiting is not good. I get the sanctions and losing seasons. But still don’t see other states with this much lack of success with j state talent.

This is what the consistent revolving door of coaches does
The real issue is leadership making a decision in 2005 that mediocrity was acceptable. That was the year they should have fired Fulmer. The program was still considered one of the top programs in the country at that time.

Sure, we can attempt to spin it any way possible. 0-10 in your own state is pretty damning evidence, though, aside from the other obvious elements currently used against us.
I thought the consensus on this board was that players commit to coaches, not schools. If that is the case then there is no correlation between in-state recruiting and recruiting success.

How many did CMR have at Georgia, or Shula at Bama? It is not about the win and loss record as much as the direction of the program. Bama and UGA dedicated themselves to excellence. If winning seasons had been the mark then Majors would have never been fired in 1992. He had won 3 SEC crowns in his last 6 seasons. Only two years removed from his last one.

we did too man. Kiffin was a splash hire then. its just been in last ten years or so AD wants something fir nothing.

Also thosw two schools have fertile recruiting grounds.

May be a bit controversial but probably due to the fact that Tennessee was not a major slave state two centuries ago. Our region was more dependent on poor Scotch, Irish, and German immigrants for manual labor. Many people do not realize the significance of indentured servants and the poverty that existed in our region.

I've been skimming. So probably saying something that has already been said...but we can't possibly take every good TN recruit. If we miss on even most of them, that's okay. I want guys who love staying home and can ball out as well. But there are a lot of other states. IDK. Seems silly to continually get mad every time we miss out on an in-state.

I don’t see TN having any trouble recruiting WR once the product hits the field.

Easy sell to recruits, “our record says we are WRU and you will have more touches than the HOF WRs before you”. Easy pitch, PT, Production, and History.
I agree. I’ve been saying that the key to winning in this league is QB and DL. I think our offense will recruit QB and offensive players for us. We need Garner to land some studs on the DL and we can win a lot of games

it may be down the list, but it’s definitely a factor
I don’t think it’s much of a factor at all….. Here is the list of things that are important to the kids, imo.

1. They want to have fun…. We have not been fun in a really long time.
2. They want to win…. We have struggled in that area
3. They don’t like the thoughts of probation bc it affects fun and chance of winning
3. They want playing time or knowing that sitting behind someone is to the players benefit.
4. They want the best chance to play at the next level.
5. They want the school that can best develop their brand and help them network for after school
6. The want a good culture and trust in a staff.
7.They may want to play with other specific players especially other players that they feel are skilled( this area may cross over into local kids but not necessarily)

These are not ranked in order as each kid is different and will have different wants and needs…. Right now we will get kids that fit our system and if our coaches know what they are doing….. will be solid football players.

Once we show the recruits that we are a fun team that is competitive and has a good culture…. More and better recruits will be searching out Tennessee as a top destination. Until then…. Enjoy the process.

Watching the UCF games….. they sort of remind me of the old hurricanes teams where they looked so fun and guys were celebrating all over the field…. I feel this team will be super fun and enjoyable to watch.

Don’t give me Shula....geez.
Richt had other factors besides wins and loses.

The main reason majors was fired was bc several people thought Phil was a stud coach and didn’t want to lose him…. If Phil wasn’t on staff…. Majors never would have been fired.
