'21 TN WR Walker Merrill (Tennessee signee)

He wears a tinted visor in practice to be able to get through most practices, but they aren't allowed in games. It's a very unfortunate situation.
Oh wow, that's a shame, wasn't aware either. Hope he can find some resolution on that.

Personal story...I have really Blue eyes, always got a lot of comments out of it (didn't like it btw haha). When I was in college I started noticing how fatigued I'd get when I drove home. Got some really good polorized sunglasses (not the gas station kinds LOL) and noticed it fixed that. I ran track and cross country and I started wearing black Oakley's when I raced, and man let me tell you, it made a HUGE difference in my performances!

If you enter your name in the Portal you ain’t no VFL. Who would sign you if you were. No disrespect but I really think in this day time of college sports the whole VFL thing means nothing. NIL for me is now the motto.

My eyes are also extremely bright whitish-blue and I have never had that problem.

I have blue eyes and I've always had issues with bright light. Natural and artificial. Pretty much have to wear sunglasses all the time, even cloudy days. Get headaches too.

Migraines? It's gonna be the axact same issue at whatever school he chooses....or are they magically gonna disappear once he gets there.

Other offenses don't mind if you have to tap out for substitutions frequently. That's where the difference is. He has a much better chance in a different style of offense that isn't dependent on going fast and limiting substitutions. I guess he could go 4-5 plays then back to the sidelines to put on sunglasses for awhile (just a suggestion).
It's going to be an issue wherever he goes, but somewhere else might be more accommodating if he's there most talented WR.

This makes sense. He’s a good player but I think we have guys more talented. It just is what it is

If he did not get on the field the other night, and his knowledge of the development of this year's freshman and knowing Seldon and Leacock are on the way may have made the decision at least rational. I don't have a clue what the staff would like in this situation, so I can't develop a preference.

He is a good receiver, but a couple of the Freshmen WR are outstanding. He wants to play and I think , I would do the same. Playing is much more exciting than sitting on the bench.

Same here. They affected my performance in baseball in college. That was back in the days there were no good shades like today. We had flipshades for fly balls that were awful and nobody wore anything like that to hit. I finally gave the game up since I could not hit well and was getting fatigued.

Took up golf after college and loved it. But ran into similar problems as it affected my depth perception. Would do better when cloudy or not looking toward the sun. Then Nike started doing wraps with prescription lenses. Boom! I have since moved on to a different style and learned that amber tint was the best for the depth perception. Had amber wraps been available when I was a young man the story may have been different.

The air irritants inpact the eyes and migraines. The Tennessee, Mississippi and Ohio River valleys have the highest concentrations for asthma and allergies in America, which in turn are really rough on the eyes and sinuses. In addition, cloudier environments may help as well to reduce eye strain. Rotating more in games can also release the tension.

I was at the eye doctor about a month ago. They had all this fancy equipment. After my exam, he asked me if I wear sunglasses. I said never. He couldn't believe it. He told me that with my blue eyes, I should always wear polarized sunglasses, otherwise you risk macular degeneration, which he said he could see the beginning signs of.

These guys have to put in so much time for the sport they play. It's pretty much the same with any scholarship athlete at this level. He must see the writing on the wall. Its not a matter of quitting or not being loyal to his teammates. Like you said, the young man just wants to get on the field I'm sure. I wished our fans would understand that. He's not leaving after his freshman year.

Incredibly bad take imho.

There are times when kids are asked to explore their options. Also times when a kid moving in is better for the program.

You’re arguing with someone who publicly said ain’t. And not in a funny Jeff Foxworthy way.

In all seriousness tho, Merrill is a VFL lol. He waited his turn and then got beat out. He's not a young guy who just needs to wait his turn. Also important to note that he didn't commit to this staff so he didn't have a reason to stay but he did and the staff claimed he was the hardest worker in the WR position room. Merrill will be good somewhere, just didn't work out here. Not a knock against him

Truth. Do it. I was the same way and it was a mistake. I now have MD.
