TN's SEC Tourney Scenarios

Other than UGA beating Bama and us not having to play until Friday you mean?

Well, you could argue that double bye would mean it would be harder to win another game in the tourney. Having the single bye and a 5 seed gives us a game against the 12th or 13th best team in the SEC and gives us a much better opportunity to get to 20 wins.

True, but it also brings the possibility of a DEVASTATING loss into play. A loss to Auburn/USC could very well knock UT back out of the tourney, and given our history in the SECT, it's not that far outside the realm of possibility. A loss to Bama wouldn't be all that awful, because there's a decent chance they're going to the tourney too.

I don't see beating a team like that giving us any kind of boost. Just gives us a shot at a horrible loss.

Playing a 12/13 does set up the possibility of a bad loss, but it also gives you a better shot at getting to 20 wins. I think psychologically (no matter how much they look at RPI, etc.), it's easier to put a 20 win team in than a 19 win team. Also, if we can't beat the 12th or 13th best team in the SEC on a neutral site, we don't deserve to go to the NCAA's anyway.

@BFQuinn: Thought Vols might only need 1 win in the SEC tournament. Then I saw the bracket. Alabama in quarters looms as a tournament play-in game.

^ This is why I was hoping for a 4 seed. Thursdays game will do zero for our chances if we don't win Friday. And playing Thursday only lowers our chances of winning Friday. The 2-5 seeds will all need to win Friday to help NCAA chances. Wouldn't be such a big deal if there wasn't so many sec bubble teams.

All depends on who else loses on Friday. Should any of Ole Miss, Bama, or Kentucky lose, I think we are ok. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think they will all 3 win.

Did Quinn join the selection committee?
