To reach a final 4 we have to;

Pretty loaded. Best PG we've had up there. Lofton. JuJuan Smith. Andre Patterson. Asumnu. Wingate. Buzz recruited pretty well
One guy that made the NBA and a short handed roster of typical SEC talent. Problably was better talent than originally thought of but far from what anybody called loaded. It was only 7 or 8 scholarship guys if I'n remembering correctly. They added Childress late who was basicly mid-major talent.

It was a perfect collection of players to press and run. You're right, it wasn't really "loaded". Pearl did a great job maximizing their talents. Got an overseed as a result

It seems like every thread on this forum becomes a referendum on Barnes because they are hijacked by a few posters obsessed with getting rid of him, despite not offering any alternatives other than bringing up a long gone UT coach. I have some issues with Barnes, but what can't be argued is that he has taken a broken program and made it nationally relevant again and a high tournament seed most years. To brush that aside and suggest that he can be easily replaced by someone better without even suggesting any names is asinine.

Back to the thread subject - I've said this in a few other threads, but to me a change in the way the offense operates would help greatly against elite teams in big games. The motion and ball movement we use results in too many tough, contested shots late in the shot clock against better defenses. Attacking early in the clock with some DHO and P&R actions will get Knecht and JJJ more easy looks and shots at the rim, resulting in more FT's. It will also result in open corner 3's off kick-outs and get Aidoo and Awaka dunks as roll men. Just a thought.

Either coach worshippers or the other end of spectrum. Both are extremely detrimental to a forum.

How about discussion on concerns from what we have seen so far?

Other than the obvious “make shots”, I think we have to figure out rebounding. Against these larger teams we’re getting killed on the boards. If we’re committed to small ball somehow we have to rebound better
Make the elite 8

Tennessee needs to learn to consistently attack the rim if it wants to reach the Final 4. Knecht is the only player on the team that does that now.

Anyway, to get to the final four...... won't be done this year.
Just don't have the post players to get it done.

I guess there might be a 10% chance of getting there if....
Aidoo and Awaka both improve tremendously and Philips
and Estrella get a whole lot more play time than currently.

I expect the run to end in the S16, best case lose in the E8.

Barnes has 2 S16’s at Tennessee, so an E8 this year and you’re on record as saying he’s better than Pearl?

Matches him here. How many final fours does both have in their careers and in how long a career? Match them up side by side for the last 10 years. Fair?

Either you’re of the opinion he developed those guys dramatically in a 4 month span, or it was a pretty loaded roster. He had a NBA veteran PG and 2 of the 3 best 3pt shooters in Tennessee history on that team.
Those two fit Pearls system perfectly and were what two or three star recruits? I think they were better than expected in terms of talent but neither would be near as good in a different system. Lofton was the best contested shooter I've ever seen. How many coaches out there even allow him to shoot that? They had an absolute green light at all times and thrived with it.

Why 10 years, weird line to draw? Pearl is no spring chicken, if you wanna compare careers do so. If you want to compare just what they did at Tennessee then do so. If you simply want to shift and shape the conversation to fit your narrative then by all means, continue to do so.

I asked a simple question, and yet you couldn’t answer it.

Williams was also a 3 star as was Schofield, not sure what that matters as both are in the NBA?

To make the FF: Rest key players the last week of regular season (if championship is not on the line) and lose in the first game of the SEC tournament. Lose early in the conference tournament, then you’ll have the best chance to make the FF.

By tournament time, I will have my healthiest team possible.

Barnes coached a conference bottom feeder when the Big East was the most competitive league in the NCAA. Then he coached at a lower end program that was in a great basketball conference with 2 of the bluest bloods in existence. Then he coached in another conference with another blue blood and lots of high level opponents. And now he’s in yet another conference with another blue blood and schools with the biggest budgets in the NCAA.
