To those who think Malik can't contribute...

I just hope Malik learns soon not to read Volnation. Posters will pronounce you as an NFL first rounder and will say you will never see the field. If you skip a class, it will be posted here by one of your classmates. If you leave a bad tip at a restaurant, everyone will read about it here. If you make a generous gesture to a Vol fan, the volnation will know. Everyone will have their opinion about you and they will all feel free to share them, good or bad. So, my advice to you us to stay away from this board. Same to all the other UT commits. You don't want to know everyone's opinion.

And for goodness sake, dont drive a jetski at the lake with a girl on the back. The bandwaggoners around here will tear you apart.

I graduated from DB as well. Smoked many a cig (as well as a few doobs) on top of the Little Theater.

lol coach Clark hated me. I returned the favor. Course, he wasn't head coach back then. It was that goober from Maryville who replaced coach Walton, I forget his name.

But I played for DB, but wasn't ever very good, though I did start a few games my Junior year (didn't play my senior year).

you talking about Coach Wilson,Coach Clark replaced him after being OC for Coach Wilson. Forgot about all the good times at the Little Theater.

Weak offer list and stealing him away from Vandy is nothing to get excited about..can anyone honestly say that 10 years ago they would be all excited about picking this guy up and that it would be "boom" news? I'm sure he can play but the point is that there should not be a bunch of hype over it..

Tennessee the State is well represented in college and NFL talent..... We just seem to miss out on some of the best players that don't end up VFL.... Just look on current top level rosters in the NCAA and look on NFL rosters... Patrick Willis.... Donta Hightower....Hell for that matter look at BAMAs roster every year like Barret Jones.... Plenty of kids from Memphis playing in the NFL...... Tennessee doesn't always have the numbers but college coaches from all over are in these school offering.... That the true measure.... Tennessee has enough instate talent to supply a foundation for a rebuilding program.... You just have to have people that can look through the "stars" and see the talent.... I agree with the Nebraska comment; they did it with a fleet of "walk-on" Nebraska kids that wanted to bleed for their local school... Sometimes heart gets you so much more than a roster full of 5^ kids.... The 1999 team comes to mind... They all played like JH did this year.....

Witch Doctor hope he brings some Pal's with him.
BNL

MMMmmm....Pals....

Everytime I fly in to the US, my first stop in Kport is Pals, right where I get off the interstate in Colonial Heights.

yeah Wilson, that was him. I never liked him. I wanted to play under Coach Walton. He got fired after my freshman year.

I'm an assistant manager at a pals!

Shut up.

No way.

My dream job.

Basically my point was if Malik was playing in Texas, Georgia, Florida etc he would be a 4 star minimum. Now you could argue that his numbers wouldn't be as good. The guys I listed are all 2 stars, Malik is very very close to being a 4 star. I'm not arguing that we should stop recruiting 5 stars an shoot for 2 stars I'm simply pointing out that talent around this area gets overlooked by a lot of so called smart people.

These very points are referenced in Tony Basilio's blog entry for Monday (The Tony Basilio Show). Citing a "Dr. Sinclair," he also said that, if Malik was playing in any of the states that you referenced, he would, without a doubt, be rated as a four-star prospect. Basilio provides a detailed analysis of Malik's recruitment in this piece; he is quite impressed with the job Butch Jones has done thus far in recruiting.

I just don't want to make a living off of a roster full of 2 and 3 stars. A few sprinkled in is ok but 2 stars should be walk ons in our program. VT is a great example of 2 and 3 star talent, but they could not hang with SEC powers week in and week out. Don't need to follow their blueprint.

Can't say I'm plused about the Swafford offer to get Foreman. Based on Foreman's film, I would definitely say the rating system isn't doing this kids ability justice.

Have you looked at Swafford's film? Not saying he's a super star but I think he could make it at UT. He could end up at receiver. Has very good hands. Made some unbelievable catches in high school. Was named defensive player of the game in this years east-west all star game.

great to see the witch doctor again! I got to watch Malik play in person quite a bit this year. He remined me of watching Rogan when he was at Fulton. He made plays no matter where they lined him up. Really good balance and quickness. I was most impressed with his smarts on the field and how fast his first two steps are.

Actually Gerald Sensabaugh played 3 years at ETSU, the football team was disbanded going into his senior year and he transfered/played for North Carolina only 1 year.

Id say you may be right occasionally, but to say that it gets overlooked every year in the State I believe is a reach. If you are good, colleges will find you. I just hope in this case, we found him first.... and he ends up being an All Conference performer.

The flip side to this story? Teddy Gaines played for DB and then came to UT. As someone mentioned earlier, just because others did well from DB doesn't mean anything in regards to current players.

and before someone mentions he made some practice NFL squads and whatnot, let's not pretend like that made him good. He got burnt multiple times every game.

Once again missed my point entirely. I'm not saying Malik will be starting in the nfl one day. My point is he is underrated as a recruit because of where he plays and who he plays against. I used the previous players as examples because they were obviously underrated too.

no, you're missing the point entirely. Because of who he played against there's no way to prove whether or not he's underrated or overrated. He played against Boone, Elizabethton, the directional Sullivans, probably the worst four year stretch in TN High history, Science Hill, etc. As a UET native, I love watching those teams play, and DB is a perennial beast in UET, but you can't call him underrated or overrated just because of who he played. You especially can't use previous examples and say he'll be like them. He's either going to make it or he isn't.

Please show me where I said he will be like them. I was using them as examples because they were all underrated unless you're going to tell me 2 star high school athletes typically start in the nfl. And it's not just because of who he plays, it's where. If he were playing in Texas or Florida he would be rated higher.
