Tobias Harris' Draft Status?

He would not be a first round pick at this point. He needs lots of work on his defense and outside shooting.

Agree with posters above and also would add that he isn't mentally ready yet. He needs to be more of a leader and demand the ball more before he is ready for the league.

Don't think he is mentally or physically ready. He is not as athletic as I hoped he would be. Not really a quick leaper, not a very explosive first step. Hope he doesn't get bad advice and turn pro.

Once he figures out his limitations, he can play in the NBA for a while.

Gary Parrish has him in top 10, goes without saying I hope he doesn't leave.

If he leaves this year, he is not a top 10 pick, but probably first round with good money. Hope that he sticks around and polishes up some skills and comes out as a top 5 in one or two more years.

He has been everything he was advertised to be. He wasn't supposed to be the most explosive or athletic player. He was supposed to be fundamentally sound with a high work ethic. He was supposed to come in and play the pt F role, and IMO has done so with great success. The times I am most excited is when he pulls down a defensive rebound and brings the ball up the court. He gets hustle plays(steals & blocks) and he goes after it every night. The only knock I have is his ability to demand the ball and take the team on his shoulders. I have yet to see that out of him, but that is usually the case with Frosh.

One thing, our fan base sounds like a football fan base. Saying things like Scotty and Tobais aren't draft worthy yet... The NBA drafts on pure potential moreso than any other sport and both possess unique skill sets and without a doubt would both be drafted. Maybe not in the first round, but both players WILL be drafted this upcoming draft if they so choose to enter.

Go Vols!!! Lets crush LSU tonight and get some retribution for the grid iron fiasco!

late first rounder, but i don't think he will leave. The coaches will talk him out of it. He needs work to get that shot to be more consistent.

He's not going anywhere this year. Much more money in a year or two. Anytime you can make a few extra million by staying put, you do it. Period.

The talk with Harris is very different than with Hopson. Everyone on here thinks Harris is great and will be a decent NBA player...he just needs time. Hopson could go either way, and no one knows.

Coming out of college early as a PF or C is much harder than coming out as a guard or wing. Post players need physical maturity and technique, whereas freshman guards can come out and blow people away with pure athleticism initially, then develop technique as they go in the NBA (Rose, Evans, Wall, etc). Only unbelievable bigs go after one year and do well.

Not ready yet. Of course, if Pearl is gone, Tobias may leave too.

i agree with you. tobias has no reason to stay if he is projected anywhere in the 1st round. if we are slapped with major violations, which we will be, then he will leave as why would he stay ? however, if we survive this mess, he might just stay one more year to help raise his stock.

Maybe Hat will weigh in on it. He overheard some nba scouts talking about a couple of players in one of our games, but the rascal won't tell me what they said :) (althogh I understand why)

A combo of Blake Griffin and Andy Griffith?

Strangely accurate.

Nice.

Right now I'd say he's a less athletic Charles Barkley.

He can run, rebound, dribble, post, shoot, pass, but not great at any of it. Has potential for sure to be a good player. Could be a #3 option on an elite team in my opinion if he works hard enough on his athleticism/footspeed.

Early second rounder.... Probably best if he just stays and works his way up to a lottery pick next season.

I definitely agree with this assessment, the only issue, is where we are projecting Tobais at the next level is a little different. I see Tobais being molded into a SF at the next level and not staying in the post. He is too good with the ball in his hands and with a more developed outside game, he will have some NBA GM drooling over that inside/outside game so few players over 6'7" have. SF's can make their money on defense and letting the game come to them, which Tobais will excel at without a doubt IMO.

Go Vols!!!
