Tobias Harris' Draft Status?

Now that I think about it, Toni may not be the best Croatian player ever.

just curious, who do you think is the best European player ever?
Hard to go against the pre knee injuries Sabonis. When guys like Pete Newell and Bob Knight say you're as good as they've ever seen, that's a pretty good endorsement. Petrovic and Nowitzki are also candidates. Gasol and Parker are playing their way into the discussion.

Sabonis was good as a Nba player. can't imagine how good he was in his prime.

I was thinking of guys who played in Europe.

also think Tony Parker and Dirk are better than Gasol.

Never got to see him play in person because i was born after his time....but i like seeing highlights of Dominique Wilkins He had some ups!!!! also, Harris reminds me of Melo I see him having the potential to play with the same type of game as Melo on the next level if he works at it.

And also outside of Europe the best international player would have to be Hakeem " The dream" Olajuwan....it hates me to say this being a Knicks fan but when he played against Ewing he always won.

Jan 12 Update: Harris, at 6-8, is a bit undersized to play productively around the basketball as a rookie and isn't quick enough to guard NBA small forwards right now. Instead, he's a jack-of-all-trades type who can rebound, handle the ball in transition in some isolation situations and shoot from the mid-range. And he plays with a good IQ and with good, but not great, energy.

In a perfect basketball world, Harris returns to Tennessee as a sophomore and is one of the 10 best players in college basketball next season, assuming he makes normal improvement. It's more likely he'll jump and go near the back of the first round. -- By Fran Fraschilla

Thought it was interesting.

Ewing played well once ever in a big game. In his hay days in NY he could battle Vince Carter for the weakest in the clutch.

Petrovic, of course.

If anybody hasn't seen "Once Brothers", I strongly recommend checking it out. It was my favorite of the 30.

"Once Brothers" was excellent. That Yugoslav team was stacked. It felt like Kukoc still holds a grudge vs Vlade.

Tobby will need to finish out 2x better than he's started in order to go pro. I mean, he probably could go 2nd round now....but if he improves next year it'll be first round. I do not see him going unless we win either 1. SEC Championship or 2. NCAA final 4.........because of Tobby. Otherwise..he'll be in orange next year.

He's not going anywhere this year. Much more money in a year or two. Anytime you can make a few extra million by staying put, you do it. Period.

He would go higher in a year or two but the economy is in better shape right now than it will be in two years. He should make the big bucks while he can.

First post!

I see a lot of Boris Diaw in Harris, and also a little of Antawn Jamison as well.

Diaw: Similar size and athleticism (although Boris is a little bit heavier). Same jack-of-all-trades game. Both have great vision and appear to be too willing to pass the ball at times. Good in the post and creative finishing around the basket, but inconsistent and somewhat fundamentally flawed in the midrange and on the perimeter. Harris has a chance to be better than Diaw, mostly because of his high motor (whereas Diaw has questions in that department), but I think Boris Diaw is ultimately a pretty good comparison and projection for Harris.

As for Jamison: Again, similar size, both tweener forwards. Both have great touch - they have a knack for awkward-looking shots around the basket that seem to go in more than they should. Jamison was a bit more athletic in his prime, and if I recall correctly he could be a black hole at times - Harris is actually the opposite, seeming to think 'pass' a little more than I'd like. At his best, Jamison was a gifted and combustible scorer, capable of putting on some pretty amazing performances. If I was being realistic, I wouldn't expect Harris to reach Antawn's level. So, while I'd mark Diaw as a solid projection, I'd mark Jamison as his ceiling.

Just my two cents!

Sabonis prior to his knee problems was certainly the best European player. Some of the things they say he did prior to knee problems are crazy for a guy his size.

"Once Brothers" was excellent. That Yugoslav team was stacked. It felt like Kukoc still holds a grudge vs Vlade.

I didn't come away with that feeling at all. To me, both Kukoc and Radja seemed very sincere in their statements that the flag incident was overblown.

I think all of three of them realize in hindsight that the breakup of their friendship during the conflict was unavoidable, inevitable, and was nobody's fault. It was interesting to see the interview with Kukoc back when he was just starting with the Bulls. The reporter was asking him about the conflict and specifically asked him if ever talked to Vlade. Kukoc indicated that Vlade had given him his number and told him to call if he felt comfortable calling, and then Kukoc said that he had friends and family back home that were telling him that he better not be talking to Vlade. By his Kukoc's mannerisms in his response, you could tell it was a pretty uncomfortable situation. It was kinda like "what I'm supposed to do here?"

There are obviously a lot of croatian people that still very much hate Vlade. But I think the reconciliation -- talked about at the end of the documentary -- between Vlade and the croatian members of the team, is actually sincere.

Based on his play tonight why would anyone want to draft him? his defense is terrible and he has zero touch on his shot.

Big mistake if he enters the draft. He is not ready by any means.
